Wisteria in the suburbs - a new variety

Wisteria in the Moscow Region photo
Wisteria is a bean-related decorative vine. It is considered a rather thermophilic culture that came to Russia from the United States or East Asia. It is successfully grown in the south, especially in the Crimea or in the Caucasus.

However, many gardeners want to grow this flower in more northern regions, for example, in the capital. Some believe that wisteria is not found in the Moscow Region, since the climate is not suitable for it. However, there are such experienced summer residents in the plots of which this culture has taken root and has bloomed for a long time and pleases its owners.

Of course, the attempts of so many residents of the capital and its suburbs to grow this bright and lush creeper ended in deep disappointment. In some cases, wisteria in the Moscow region even delighted its owners with rare flowers, but after the first winter colds it finally died.

Wisteria cultivation in the suburbs

At first, many simply waved their hands and stopped planting this crop in the plots, but today it became clear that the failure of these attempts was explained by the use of such varieties as plentiful-colored or Chinese, known for their increased heat loving and intolerance to frosts above fifteen degrees.

Not so long ago, breeders have bred an entirely new variety of wisteria called mahrostachia. According to the developers, this plant is able to tolerate even forty degrees cold. Thanks to this feature, wisteria in the Moscow region will soon not be a rarity.

However, even despite such characteristics, it must be borne in mind that this culture requires a lot of attention and patience from the gardener, so it will not be so easy to grow it.

Wisteria
Wisteria in the suburbs should grow in the sunniest and southern parts of the garden. Even makhrostahiya does not tolerate drafts or strong winds, so you need to plant it in the most quiet place from the air currents.

When buying planting material, the gardener must be sure that the seedlings are grafted. Indeed, only in this case wisteria will bloom in his garden.

Growing in the suburbs is best done on slightly alkaline drained soil.

Propagation of the plant occurs vegetatively or by seed, but the latter method is very protracted. Therefore, wisteria grown by this method in the Moscow region and in the middle of our country begins to bloom only in the fourth or fifth year. In addition, seed propagation of the same cultivar of makhrostachia, as a rule, does not preserve some characteristics of the culture. Therefore, the resulting copy can be very different from its "parent".

Wisteria in the suburbs
Experts believe that wisteria in the Moscow region, the photo of which is no different from its southern counterparts, is better propagated by layering.

In the first year, the plant forms its skeleton, therefore it is more correct at this time to keep it in a container, abundantly watering and feeding.

We must not forget about the garter. Its absence can lead to cessation of growth and drying of the tips of the branches.

It will be more correct if Wisteria in the Moscow Region survives the first winter in a cellar in a container. And in the spring, a prepared trimmed and shaped bush is planted in its permanent place for cultivation. It must be the warmest part of the garden, otherwise there will be no flowers.

The winter shelter for already long-standing frills is the same as for climbing varieties of roses. In the absence of snow, you need to stock up for the future with additional covering material - dry foliage.

Wisteria in the suburbs, as well as in other regions, should be tied up annually. It is impossible to suppose the braiding of the support, so that in autumn it is easy to remove the shoots, press it to the ground and cover it tightly.

Despite the fact that wisteria in the suburbs is still a rarity, with proper zeal, the plant will certainly please the owners with its bright colors.
