She is known by various names. Her pseudonyms include Madeleine Simons and Vladimir Lensky, Elena Tolstaya and Yaroslav Khabarov, Daria Ivolgina and Douglas Brian. And Elena Khaetskaya was born with an interesting, poetic surname Agranat. It happened in St. Petersburg, then Leningrad, in 1963. Elena studied at the University of Leningrad, successfully graduated from the Faculty of Journalism (for several years she worked in her specialty). In the year of graduation (1986), she married Vyacheslav Khayetskiy. Unfortunately, they did not live long - in 1993, the husband died tragically. From the husband in her arms, the woman left five-year-old son Vladimir.

Four years after the death of her first husband - in 1997 - Elena Khayetskaya decided on a second marriage. This time, her chosen one was a man from literary circles, Taras Vitkovsky, who later became a co-author of the writer. In addition to general books, the couple also has a joint child - the daughter of Aglaya.

To this day, Elena continues to write, her original books and translations fell in love with the Russian reader. Khayetskaya's works found their niche in Russian modern literature.

The biography of Elena Khaetskaya began in 1993. It was then that her first book, Sword and Rainbow, was published. This novel was published in a series of books by foreign authors, and therefore the writer was forced to replace her name with the pseudonym Madeline Simons. "Sword and Rainbow" by Elena Khayetskaya was warmly received by readers, immediately gained popularity. This is a fantasy book about the adventures of the young hero Helot from Languedoc, who is diligently trying to become a real knight. A lot of adventures fall on his lot: in the course of the plot, he finds true friends, fights evil forces, meets his first love.

The work is written in a simple, understandable language, even the words invented by the author do not cause complications, indicating the realities of the fantasy world in which the action of the novel unfolds. In addition, the text is full of dialogs, vivid events, interesting characters, so that it will be easy to read a work even for a school-age child. Unfortunately, due to a long break in the publication of books, it is difficult to perceive it as a continuation of “Sword and Rainbow”. Perhaps for this reason, Haldor of the Bright City did not become as popular as the first book in this series.
