In the Russian community (an online community with similar interests, in this case we are talking about gamers), the German tank Luchs is called the "Ray", but if we do the literal translation, we get a completely different name - "Lynx". Despite the differences in meanings, both names perfectly characterize this light fourth-class car. She is fast and maneuverable, and her dynamic characteristics are among the best in the class.
According to reviews of the Luchs tank, many players perceive it as a transitional stage when pumping medium-sized cars. A good example is random fights, where the average “Rays” live only two minutes and do not provide their teammates (members of one team) any special support.
Photos of the Luchs tank, as well as all the necessary information about it, are presented in our today's material.
Preparing for battle: modifying the game client
Before starting the game, you need to install an addition to WoT. With it, users can get information about their own viewing radii, as well as find out their maximum visibility. Not a single starting match on any tank is complete without this irreplaceable thing.
Equipment installation
Even the Luchs tank’s maximum configuration in the World of Tanks gives a very modest visibility indicator of only 360 m. At the fourth level, this is pretty good, but in this scenario, we will face battles with older opponents - with sevenths and ninths. Unfortunately, in such situations a 360-meter view is not enough. To balance the odds on the battlefield, it is important to worry about installing a stereo tube in advance. It is noteworthy that its price is several times higher than the “Ray” itself, so not many players will want to spend their savings immediately after buying a large tank. Why is a stereo tube so good? It allows you to increase visibility to 450 meters, which is the maximum indicator of visibility in WoT.
Another equipment that Luchs requires is enlightened optics. If we talk about the stereo tube, then it expands the view only when the machine is stationary. We, in turn, will often have to move around the field. In addition, installed together, a stereo tube and enlightened optics will be able to detect the location of enemy tank destroyers hiding in the bushes and light tanks at a great distance.
The camouflage rate of the Luchs tank is good: its small dimensions allow it to remain invisible. If you want to be one hundred percent sure that the enemy will bypass us, then you can install a camouflage net.
Crew and skills of its members
The place where the crew is in the Luchs tank can accommodate four people. If a player was preoccupied with installing the right equipment on the Luch, then even the basic skills of the soldiers would not be able to strike at its effectiveness.
You can also increase survival by pumping out disguise and the “sixth sense”. True, it’s better not to count on the last skill - having noticed us on the field, the vast majority of opponents will deal with us in just a few seconds.
We deal with the strategy. general information
Many players adhere to a fairly simple tactic: at the very beginning of the match, they decisively rush to the base of opponents, and then die there. Someone, on the contrary, believes that Luchs should be behind enemy lines, where he can deal with artillery. Unfortunately, neither tactic is effective enough.
What Ray really needs to do is survive. The tank is support for the rest of the teammates, and it is thanks to its speed, disguise and visibility that it is able to have a crucial impact on the final outcome of the battle.
One of the challenges when playing Luchs is good knowledge of game cards. Each battle tactics on the “Beam” depends on what kind of terrain this or that territory has, how bushes and trees are located on it. Sometimes it’s useful to lose a few matches, but have time to experiment with shelters. Such a strategy will help to identify the best ways and directions for fighting.
Below we look at several popular tactics.
Early Detection Tactics
Usually used at the very beginning of a battle, generally not very effective. Its meaning is that in the first minutes of the battle the tank climbed to an elevation, from where it can learn about the maximum number of enemies and their movement.
On the one hand, such tactics may seem useful: our teammates evaluate the opponent’s equipment in advance, and we enrich ourselves with additional money and experience. And, it seems, everything is in the gain, however, there are several "buts":
- the number of cards suitable for such a strategy is negligible;
- random fights and users who resort to the help of intelligence are a practically incompatible combination;
- almost all such positions are unsafe and well viewed by the enemy.
"Do not move! Do not shoot!"
Perhaps for someone strange and unusual, this tactic is fundamental to the vast majority of territories. All maps, with the exception of urban ones, have several special masking shelters represented by bushes and trees. They are far from each base, at equal distances. If you get to one of these shelters, you can collect information about one of the flanks, and sometimes about the whole map!
Having taken a position, it is categorically not recommended to shoot at the enemy. It should be remembered that the modest weapon of the “Ray” cannot cause any significant harm, but such an advantageous position will be disclosed.
We support the empty direction
During random fights, a situation often arises when all teammates without prior agreement begin to break in the same direction. If the player on the Luchs tank is aware of a good and safe shelter on the other side, it is best to take him. As a result of such tactics, the enemies will not be able to catch the whole team by surprise. It would also be nice to have at least one tank destroyer in the company - in this scenario, Luch will be able to stand up for a long time.
"Caution, crawl"
There are several maps in WoT that do not have any exposed terrain. It is precisely such territories that give the “Ray” an unpleasant challenge, because it will not work to sit in shelter there.
All that can be done on a Luchs tank in such a situation is a careful forward movement. If we were able to detect the enemy, it is necessary to drive up to him as close as possible and take cover behind any obstacle. The main thing is to wait until the moment when the number of enemy vehicles decreases to 8-9 units. After that, you can try to switch from the observational mode to the attack mode.
About melee
Despite the fact that the main activities assigned to “Ray” on the battlefield are to passively detect the enemy and observe him, the options for passing this are not limited to this. For example, using the Luchs tank’s drum cannons correctly can inflict a serious blow on the enemy.
Perhaps the main "trump card" of this machine is that it is often underestimated. Of course, a frontal attack in our case is not something serious, but if you act from the side or the stern, you can easily knock out 200-300 points of damage.
To summarize. Key tips for playing Luchs
At the end of the article, it’s worth summing up and laying down the main rules for an effective game on the “Ray”. They are as follows:

- If the battle, then only close. The drum gun has a very high dispersion, so a guaranteed hit is possible only at relatively small distances.
- We are not afraid to wait. The attack with Luchs at the very beginning of the battle is comparable to a guaranteed death. It is better to wait until teammates reduce the number of enemy vehicles on the battlefield to 8-9 units.
- Choose a goal. The “Luch” is notable for its good speed, so don’t immediately rush at the nearest tank. It is better to take a ride on the map and find an opponent equal in size. It is recommended to pay attention to the unfinished equipment - usually it takes only one charge to destroy it.
- Any guide to the Luchs tank boasts a list of both preferred opponents and those with whom it is better not to engage in open battle. The first group includes machines with the following characteristics: poor protection, low turret and chassis rotation speed, rear engine position. The remaining tanks are best avoided.
- If you are faced with low-profile tanks, it is better not to use the auto-aim. For such a situation, manual aiming is best suited.

- The best opponent is the busy opponent. Often there are times when a player is "third extra" between two mated tanks. In this case, he can help his ally by quietly dropping behind enemy lines. As mentioned earlier, Luch is often underestimated, so do not miss the opportunity to prove the opposite once again!
