The capital of the Netherlands is a city that everyone probably wants to visit, with an incredibly difficult to understand network of canals, with complex winding streets, houses with roofs rising upwards, and a rich artistic heritage. In addition to widespread cycling, buses and trams, the city of Amsterdam and the metro are equipped with a diagram of which this article is devoted to opening hours, rules of travel and behavior.
The discovery of the subway dates back to 1977, that is, it is relatively young. Today's network of its lines allows passengers to get to the most remote areas of the city and to the suburbs of Diemen, Amstelveen and Auder-Amstel.
In total, today there are four operating lines and 52 stations, the hours of operation of the subway from 6:00 to 24:00.
How to read the metro map
Amsterdam is not distinguished by a rich network of underground transport lines. All of them have their own color and are numbered.
- 50 - Ring line: Hein -Isolaterweg.
- 51 - Amstel line: Central Station - Westwijk.
- 53 - east line: Central Station - Gaasperplas.
- 54 - east line: Central Station - Gain.
From the stations “Central Station” (CS), Amstel, “Sloterdijk”, “Amsterdam South” and WTC there is an opportunity to make a transfer to intercity trains.
Look at the metro map of Amsterdam in Russian. Three lines start at Central Station. A new fifth line 52 or IJ Noord-Zuid lijn (indicated in blue) will connect north and south, separated by the Hey River.
Inside
Subway cars are comfortable and differ from each other in design and theme. The seat covers here are orange or blue. You can ride comfortably thanks to the loops sliding on the handrails.
Travel planning
Trains to remote areas run until one in the morning, and some with end stations closer to midnight. In Amsterdam there is a transport company GVB, which connects the routes of buses, subways and trains. You can purchase a ticket in advance on their website. Print out the Amsterdam metro map from a website on the Internet, and then you can work your way in advance and quickly find your way. An excellent assistant in planning routes around the city and the surrounding area will be the 9292 mobile application, available for Android and iPhone.
Travel
In order to travel once by metro, purchase a ticket in one of the special machines that are usually located next to the turnstiles. One trip costs 2.6 euros (about 180 rubles).
The metro scheme of Amsterdam is intuitive for everyone, but you may find that the terminal menu is written in Dutch, however, there are ones where there is an English-language translation.
Rules for using terminals:
- Banknotes of less than 50 euros and coins in denominations of one cent are accepted.
- The ticket has a validity period of one hour from the moment of its scanning in the turnstile. Therefore, it should be maintained until you exit the subway.
- You can buy a pass for a day, it costs 6.4 euros and will work in all types of public transport: both underground and ground.
Electronic Payment Service - OV Tickets
Since 2010, it is possible to use a single ticket - a chip card for all types of public transport through the OV service. GVB Tickets & Info kiosks are optimal for paying for this ticket; you can pay in cash or by credit card. A ticket can be purchased in advance on the Internet, where you can also see the Amsterdam metro map in Russian. The ticket provides the right to enter the turnstiles of the metro at the entrance and exit the required number of times. It all depends on the type and cost, there are tickets that are valid for a whole week.
For all public transport, you can also take the Amsterdam Travel Ticket, which lasts from one to three days. Its daily value is 15 euros, for two days - 20, for three - 25 euros. These tickets are purchased at Schiphol Airport.
OV Chip Cards
The choice of cards is yours, there are two options by which they differ:
- P, D or A statuses;
- time: from an hour to 7 days (inclusive).
What is meant by statuses? Personal cards (P-card), Anonym (A-card) and one-time (D-card). The first two are worth 7.5 euros, their validity period reaches five years. A personalized card with a personal photo (P) is popular with residents of the capital.
D-card - one-time card: entered / exited, its cost for 24 hours is 7.5 euros. A more favorable purchase will be an anonymous A-card, convenient for tourists who have arrived in the city for a couple of days.
Having bought a card, it needs to be replenished, since 7.5 euros will not add a cent to its balance, the minimum recharge amount is 20 euros.
All cards can be bought at vending machines or tobacco kiosks, including by bank transfer. But OV cards can only be replenished in cash.
A child ticket for babies over four years old costs 2.5 euros, its validity is a day from the date of purchase.
Subway lines, train intervals
Take a look at the diagram: many stations are adjacent to railway lines, so you can get from them not only to Schiphol Airport, but also to any other point in the country. Take a look at the photo of the Amsterdam metro scheme: how easy it is to get to the Ajax ArenA football stadium (you need lines 50 and 54) or to come to the RAI convention center along lines 51 and 50, and also to the World Trade Center of Amsterdam, to Free University of Amsterdam you will get if you go along line 51.
Trains run at intervals of five to ten minutes. It depends on the time of day.
