Plum is a popular type of fruit tree in garden plots and cottages. This fairly unpretentious plant has wide zoning, and excellent yields can be obtained not only in the southern regions, but also quite far in the north. To do this, you need to pick varieties. Especially good are the yellow varieties of plums - their fruits are almost
devoid of acid and have a sweet honey taste. It is very important not only to choose the
varieties of plums, but also to choose planting material. It is advisable to buy plum seedlings in specialized nurseries - so you will have confidence that you have purchased the variety that you were going to.
The yellow morning plums have moderate disease resistance and do not tolerate harsh winters, but quickly recover in spring, though they bear poor fruiting after freezing. They begin to actively produce fruits in the 4th year (about 22 kilograms from a young tree). Plums grow large, weighing 26-30 grams, the color is greenish-yellow, the taste is sweet with a slight acidity. The fruit ripens in the first ten days of August. The variety is approved for use in the central regions of Russia.
Often yellow plum varieties of folk selection are found in household plots. One of these varieties is Ochakovo yellow. It is widespread in the south of the northwestern zone, blooms late, bears fruit well when planted together with other late-flowering plum varieties (winter red, kingisep, etc.). Trees, usually tall, with a pyramidal crown, have dark green round shiny leaves. Fruits are greenish-yellow or amber-yellow, the flesh of this plum is juicy, sweet with a spicy aroma.
There are other yellow plum varieties that can be grown in this region. For example, a variety bred by Michurin's "greengage reform" is successfully grown in the Velikolukskaya, Novgorod regions, and in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. But you need to plant it in protected places - it has insufficient winter hardiness. The tree grows of medium height (about 3 meters) with a spreading crown. The foliage is dark green, round, ovoid in shape. The fruits are large (30-35 grams), the color is yellow-green, the pulp is dense, juicy, sweet.
Yellow plum varieties "early Loschitskaya" refers to trees with good winter hardiness and productivity. It begins to bear fruit actively already at 4-5 years (25-26 kilograms per tree). It belongs to self-fertile varieties, therefore it does not require the growth of a number of other plum varieties for pollination. The fruit has a rounded,
yellow-green color, medium size. The pulp is juicy, sweet, the bone separates well. The fruits ripen after August 15 unevenly. Mature plums fall off, can be stored up to 10 days.
Some yellow plum varieties are highly winter hardy. For example, "Tatar yellow." Trees of this variety grow medium height (up to 3 meters), the crown is sprawling. The leaves are small, light green in color, elongated egg-shaped, slightly pubescent. Flowering - later, after all frosts. Ripening period is mid-August. The fruits are medium, amber yellow, the taste is sweet with a slight acidity. This variety can be attributed to high-yielding (up to 30 kilograms from an adult tree), but good fruiting requires the joint growth of other types of plums ("rakit", "blue eye", "greengrove tenyakovsky").
