Peat pills are peat compacted into the shape of a small washer. As a rule, on the sides they pull it into a very thin mesh of natural material. At the top of such a โwasherโ there is a special recess where the seed is planted. Peat pills are an easy way to plant seedlings of both decorative flowers and vegetables. They also serve to root the leaves of some plants, for example, violets. They are made from pressed peat with the addition of minerals and nutrients. Next, we will talk about how to use them.
Peat tablets before use are placed in a special tray and soaked in warm water. Cold water is best not to use. Within five minutes, peat tablets swell and literally before our eyes increase their size five times. This material is ideal for germination. By the way, in addition to peat tablets, coconut tablets are also used, their properties are almost identical. They perfectly retain water, the seeds in them never suffer from a fungus (the so-called "black leg").
So, you soaked the pills, waited five minutes to let them get wet. Next, plant the seeds in special cavities, then cover them with a thin layer of peat (1-2 mm) on top. Then put your pills in a seedling box, preferably in electric propagators. These are special devices with
heated, covered on top with a special cover. You can use mini-greenhouses for seedlings. If you decide to use propagators, keep them constantly plugged in. This is necessary so that the bottom is warm and the seeds germinate faster. Put on the cover for the propagator only at night, and during the day it is better to remove it to provide the future plant with access to sunlight. You can use the backlight.
When the seedlings grow, get stronger, you can transplant them into a larger container, glass or pot. You do not need to remove them from the tablet itself, this is done together with the tablet itself, so as not to harm the root system.
Now let's talk about which capacity is optimal for germination, followed by a dive into open ground. Peat pots are usually used for seedlings of flower or vegetable crops. What are their advantages over standard, clay and plastic? Peat pots are containers made from a special mixture, usually peat-wood or peat-cardboard. Peat for this is taken by the sphagnum milling, which is rich in useful substances. Among other things, chalk is also added in order to reduce acidity. Such pots have sufficient strength and do not contain pathogenic microorganisms.
Choose quality products. A peat pot should have walls one and a half centimeters thick so that the roots can easily grow through its walls and bottom when planting in the ground. In the ground, it should decompose in exactly a month. After harvesting, the farmer does not need to remove the remains of the peat pot. If he did not decompose completely during this time, then you bought low-quality goods.
After you fill the pot with special soil, sow seeds in it, or plant a bulb or stalk, cover it with a piece of glass or a film on top. Do not forget to moisten the environment with growing seedlings. As the plants develop, place the pots away so that the roots, growing through the walls, do not intertwine. A day before planting in the ground, pour your seedlings to saturation.
