Every summer, in front of inveterate gardeners and summer residents, a problem arises - what kind of tomato variety to plant in greenhouses? Previously, in principle, it did not exist. In any store you could buy tomato seeds for greenhouses such as Agatha or Gruntovaya Gribovskaya. But now ... Competitive firms literally flood the market with different varieties of seeds every year. Fans of growing tomatoes do not even know which varieties are really good and which really correspond to the description given on the package. After all, each manufacturer praises its own variety, exciting the imagination and taste buds. As a result, of course, I want to take more different seeds. Many gardeners do just that. But it doesn’t lead to anything good. Some seeds may not rise at all, some - they are constantly ill. Some varieties are not suitable for the area in which they will be grown. And it’s just impossible to keep track of so many landings. Not enough time, and the average Russian does not have so much space on the windowsill for seedlings, so much space in the greenhouse. How not to make a mistake in choosing which seeds of tomatoes for greenhouses to choose?
First, let's look a little at the definitions that often appear in the description of varieties on packages.
Determinant grade. If the variety is such, then this means that it does not have the ability to breed (that is, stop growing), it can grow almost infinitely. These are ideal tomato seeds for the Moscow Region, used for growing in a greenhouse. If you do this in the open ground, you can get just a couple of brushes from bushes of such tomatoes. The thing is that they do not have enough time and heat to ripen. But superdeterminant varieties just need to be grown in open ground so as not to occupy a precious place in greenhouses in vain. Only it is necessary to choose superdeterminant varieties with the shortest vegetative periods so that by August the tomatoes have time to tie and pour the right number of brushes with fruits.
Sachets of seeds on which it is written that the fruits are stored for a long time, are well transported or do not crack should alert. If you use such tomato seeds for greenhouses, the fruits then turn out to be tasteless, with an ugly white solid frame under pretty red skin. Such varieties are professional hybrids specially created for sale. The only plus of such varieties is that they are well suited for whole-canning. For example, a suitable variety is Caspar, which also tastes good.
“The variety is resistant to many diseases” - an inscription that is absolutely non-binding. Tomatoes are still affected by cladodosporiosis or other "tomato" sores. It is much better if the manufacturer honestly indicates on the packaging what diseases the variety resists.
Oddly enough, but it is noticed - if it is indicated on the package, the fruits have high palatability, tomatoes are tasteless.
Tomato seeds for Siberia must be tall in order to rationally use the inner space of the greenhouse where they will grow. This is an ideal option for such climatic conditions. Such varieties also, as a rule, have protection against bacterial and fungal diseases. You can use determinant and semi - determinant varieties of tomatoes.
Regardless of which tomato seeds you have chosen for greenhouses, several specific rules can be deduced before planting them.
1. To process the seeds before sowing in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, lowering them in a gauze bag in this solution for 15 minutes.
2. Then soak them for 12 hours in a nutrient solution: 1 liter of water or a tablespoon of ash, or a teaspoon of nitrophoska. Then, without washing, also put in clean water for 12 hours.
3. Season the seeds: put in a wet bag in the refrigerator for 2 days. Then - immediately plant in the soil.
