In recent years, a new craft has become very popular - weaving from newspapers. The beginning of weaving, as a rule, is difficult for most novice masters. In this article we will give some practical advice on how to weave from old newspapers on the example of flower baskets.
Let it not bother you that your first creation will not turn out immediately perfect. Like any new business, dexterity requires weaving from newspapers.
Start weaving
Preparation of the material will take some time and effort from you. Take unnecessary newspapers and cut them into strips about 7 cm wide. Sometimes, some experienced craftsmen advise you not to use scissors, but to use a long ruler to tear newspapers into strips.
Prepare glue and knitting needle. Twist the newspaper strips, holding them at an angle to the spoke. Your task is to get tight tubes, which will be the material for the future basket. Use glue or an adhesive pencil to fasten the end of the paper tape. Most leaves the tubes colorful, and paints the finished product. For beginners, this is the best option. Make enough newspaper tubes. For their manufacture, you can attract members of your family - they will like such an occupation. In some cases, it makes sense to place a thin flexible wire inside each blank so that the product is more durable and lends itself well to the weaving process.
Now comes the most crucial operation in the technique of “weaving from newspapers” - the bottom of the basket. Position the paper tubes as shown in the photo. Start binding as instructed. You will quickly master this simple ancient craft - weaving. From newspapers, the beginning of weaving is best done using ordinary clothespins, so that the tubes are more obedient to work. As your skills improve, you will no longer need such devices. But for the first time they are simply irreplaceable.
There is another very easy option for those who are trying to master weaving from newspapers: the beginning of weaving skips the stage of forming the bottom of the product. The bottom is replaced by a ready-made cardboard blank. For this, it is necessary to cut two parts of the same shape, but differing in size. If the bottom is rectangular or square, it is convenient to use a shoe box. Using a ruler, carefully draw a rectangle, circle, or oval of a given size, and cut out the upper part by backing off 5 mm on each side. Stick newspaper tubes on a larger base. Glue the smaller part on top.
The weaving itself is carried out according to the scheme, having previously bent the tubes up.
Continue to alternate the transverse elements, intertwining them with vertical details. If, by design, your basket should taper somewhat upward, then tilt the vertical blanks to the center a little. When the entire product is woven, bending is performed.
Weaving from newspapers ends as follows: vertical parts are cut to a certain height (about 2-3 cm) and tucked into the basket. They must be reliably masked and fixed with glue. The last operation is painting.
