Origin of the variety
This variety was bred at the garden-experimental station in Mlievo, which today bears the name of the Institute of Pomology named after Simirenko. Apple tree “glory to the winners” was created in the 30s of the last century by crossing two varieties: “folder” and “mac”. Initially, the resulting apple trees were used in orchards, the activity of which was aimed at the industrial production of apples in large volumes. Zoning of the variety was carried out practically throughout the European territory of the Soviet Union, including the North Caucasus and Ukraine.
Description of the tree: the structure of the crown and branches
The apple-tree variety “glory to the winners” is assigned to tall-growing trees, since its crown has a very powerful crown, which in the initial period of plant development has a broad-pyramidal shape, and over the years becomes wide oval or round. The main, skeletal branches of the crown extend from the trunk at an acute angle, while their ends are directed upwards. In the upper tiers, the angle between the trunk and the base of the branches is sharper than in the lower. Apple tree “glory to the winners” branches very intensively, while fruit formations are located on the ringworm and spears, and very rarely on fruit rods.
The bark on the trunk of young seedlings is red-brown, shiny, in adult trees acquires a rich brown color. Branches are also covered with brown bark. Young shoots are even, smooth, with the frequent arrangement of small lentils.

In this neighborhood, about 30% of the flowers are pollinated. In the absence of pollinators, tying reaches 8%, which is a very low rate.
Pollen of the glory to the winners apple tree has low viability, and the number of “empty” flowers, that is, without pollen, on a tree can reach 48% of the total. All this may lead to the question: why is this variety considered high-yielding? The fact is that when pollinating with other varieties, the yield from one tree is about 120-180 kg of high-quality fruits that look very appetizing. Depending on the growing conditions, the apples have an oblong-round or slightly conical shape. The peel on the fruit is smooth, with a pronounced gloss.
During the ripening maturity, the color of the apples is yellow-green, with a uniform bright blush and a barely noticeable bluish coating. The peel of the fruit is strewn with small bright dots. The seed chamber of the fruits of the apple tree “glory to the winners” is large. Its cavities contain from 4 to 6 seeds of brown color. On the palate, the fruits of this variety are sweet-sour, very juicy. The color of the pulp is from light cream to yellowish white. Apples of this variety can be consumed fresh, as well as processed into juices, jams and even dried.

So that the apple tree “glory to the winners” annually gives excellent harvests, it is important to choose the right place for planting it. First, the tree must be constantly exposed to the sun. Secondly, high yields are observed only in those specimens that grow on tinned soils, that is, in the presence of constant vegetation in the near-stem circle. Thirdly, the apple tree of this variety, as mentioned above, is prone to strong branching, so gardeners should pay special attention to the formation of the crown and its regular thinning. In addition, it is important to constantly monitor the soil moisture level under the apple tree “thank the winners”, since the variety, despite its high winter hardiness, tolerates drought very poorly.
