Buying an apartment is a special event for each person, regardless of age and social status. And if you saved on the price of the apartment, then the repair will have to be done unequivocally. If you bought an apartment, as they say, improved equipment, then here you can not do without alterations, because you will not please everyone. This is where the material that will be discussed comes in handy. So, let's talk about GCR.

hkl what is it

Advantage over other materials

To begin, we will analyze the abbreviation "GKL", what is it. And this is the notorious gypsum plasterboard. The first letter - "G", means plaster, the second ("K") - cardboard. Issued in the form of sheets, hence the letter "L".

The material consists of rectangular gypsum sheets glued on both sides with cardboard. GKL are sold in such sizes: 1.2 m wide and 2.5 m long, 3.0 m. For the convenience of lifting to the upper floors, 2.0 m sheets are produced in the elevator.

Why is gypsum board so good? First of all, at a price. Despite the seemingly rather big cost, GCRs can save not only money, but also time and nerves. Do not believe me, so try replacing drywall with plasterboard, plain or textured in at least one room. If you prepare the solution yourself, then calculate the cost of cement, sand. And do not forget to pay for water. In addition, then you have to wash the floors.

If you want to buy a ready- mixed plaster mixture, read the material consumption per square meter on the bag. It seems inexpensive? Only the flow rate is written to a layer thickness of up to 1 centimeter, and if you need to level all five? Then multiply the cost by five and, comparing prices, do not forget that one drywall sheet has an area of 3 square meters.

Now about the properties of the material. The GKL device is gypsum and cardboard processed using special technology. The sheets have water repellent properties, which prevents the formation of mold and fungus. With a relatively small thickness, gypsum board, even without additional materials, is in itself a good way of warming residential premises. Ease of installation, ease of operation - these are the undeniable advantages of GCR. What is it, even a beginner in construction knows.

Types of drywall sheets

There are two main types of GCR produced by industry today. It:

  • wall;
  • ceiling.

They vary in thickness. Wall sheet - 14 mm, ceiling - 9.5 mm. Accordingly, the weight of wall GCRs is greater. It is quite acceptable to use ceiling sheets on the walls, if at the same time you use additional heaters. So you can save on the difference in cost, although it is small.

When choosing drywall, you will notice that it has a different color. This is due to the fact that the material is also classified by resistance to impact factors. For convenience, the sheets are highlighted in different colors:

  • gray - ordinary;
  • green - moisture resistant;
  • pink - heat resistant.

Be sure to install them in accordance with this gradation.

GKL types

Plasterboard sheets, depending on the structural application, vary in types of side edges. If you are going to decorate the walls with decorative plaster, it is advisable to choose a gypsum board with a rounded edge (ZK). You will putty with a mesh along the seam, then a refined edge (UK) on the front side will do. Without meshing (PLC) - a semicircular edge on the front side. The universal edge, on which you can both glue the net and not glue, is designated as - PLUK. The straight edge (PC) on the sheets is designed for installation without sealing joints.

Material scope

Thanks to all these properties and, first of all, the simplicity of the execution of work, drywall is widely used in interior decoration. Enter any building and you will see partitions from the GKL. Walls, various designs, decor elements are erected from the same material. The multilevel ceiling is quite popular . GKL for its creation fits perfectly.

Specialists make furnishings from drywall: shelves, cornices, niches and coasters. And decorative fireplaces from GKL are in almost every second apartment. Attic rooms and cellars in summer cottages and in homesteads are almost entirely originally finished with this material. In general, gypsum plasterboards as an alternative to plaster are simply irreplaceable. Now almost everyone will tell about the GCR, what it is, almost everyone knows. But few will say how this material was called before. It was called dry plaster.

Mounting sheets on glue

Two main methods of GKL fastening fully satisfy the requirements of all types of repairs. Let's consider them separately.

The first method is gluing. In rooms that do not require additional insulation, plasterboard sheets are attached directly to the wall. To do this, first you need to process the surface: remove dust and dirt, and then prime. Then we apply adhesive to the sheets cut to size and press them against the wall, controlling the vertical plane by level.

The method seems to be simple, but it is worth paying attention to the consistency of the glue. It should not be too thin or thin. Apply it correctly with dotted strokes with a distance of 30-40 cm from each other. Do not spare the glue, it is better to press harder than to be afraid that the sheet will fall off. Press, or rather tap, a sheet with a rubber mallet, you can put an even board and beat harder.

After the glue has hardened, you can insure yourself and additionally fasten the gypsum board with dowel nails. Take the dowels with fungi and drive in so that the heads are completely hidden. This method of fixing plasterboard sheets, although it helps to save a little area, is nevertheless narrowly targeted. It is impossible to make a structure or align the ceiling with such an installation; it is also impossible to use insulation. For these purposes, GKL mounting on the profile is used.

Mounting on a profile frame

When applying this method, the main thing is to create a solid and perfectly even construction in all respects from profiles. You should immediately take a pencil and wherever possible: on the floor, wall, ceiling - draw the contours of the future design. Then we take a screwdriver and screws, with their help we fasten the sheets cut to size.

A slightly more laborious process is the creation of a two- or three-level ceiling. Here the difficulty lies precisely in the correct fixation and construction of the profile frame. But the drywall sheets themselves are cut and stacked without visible effort. Even if you need to bend GKL strips on a figured design, just soak them in warm water. After that, they will ideally bend and screw onto the frame. That's all that can be said about the GCR. What is it, you now know. A few words about profiles should also be added.

Profile for drywall constructions

Previously, the GKL profile was sold in two types - UD and SD. Either there were no others in our country, or industry did not produce them at all. Today, which cannot but please the master-finishers, a number of special, improved products have appeared. In addition to the already mentioned UD (size 30x28 mm) and SD (27x60 mm), you can freely purchase a reinforced profile on the ceiling (GKL is attached to it perfectly). There is also a rack-mount universal (50x50) and extended (with dimensions of 65, 70, 100x50 mm) for partitions, a guide and even an angular profile (angle - 85 degrees).

All this profile for GKL and other fixing material are designed to make the frame more durable and reliable, and installation work is as easy and simple as possible.

Used tool

Many tools are not needed to cut the drywall sheets themselves. A pencil, a ruler and a knife - that's the whole simple set. Roulette will come in handy and, in extreme cases, a special grater.

But to make a frame from a profile is another matter. You will need first of all water and building levels, as well as a center cord. For profiles - metal scissors and pliers. Hammer and punch - for mounting on dowels. Drills, drills and a screwdriver will be useful. You will have to use a square, a pair of compasses and a set of various nozzles for cutting holes. These tools will help you quickly and efficiently mount the structure of plasterboard sheets.
