Almost every one of them suffered, was an outcast, lost loved ones, lived in fear, fearing enemies and himself. Someone later managed to find a way to the light, and someone more and more plunged into darkness. In any case, the life story of each character in the Marvel universe is interesting in its own way. In this article, we will find out who Cyclops is (Marvel Comics). In addition, we pay attention to his abilities, biography and personal life.
Cyclops: biography and dossier (Marvel)
Scott Summers was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in the family of Christopher Summers, a U.S. Air Force test pilot, and his wife Catherine Ann. Later, his younger brother Alex appeared, and for some time they grew up together. Until that accident.
Once, when the family was returning from vacation, their plane attacked a spaceship of the alien race Shi'ar. Only one parachute escaped the attacks, to which the parents fastened their sons. They managed to push them out of the plane, and they themselves allegedly died in the explosion. Unfortunately, the fire damaged the parachute, so it did not open. Scott watched in horror as they quickly approached the ground. It was then that his abilities first appeared.
By releasing the optical discharge, Scott slowed the fall. That is what saved the life of both. In order to protect his brother, Scott took the whole blow on himself, because of which he received a severe head injury and was hospitalized. But the trouble was just beginning. Very soon, the mutant's abilities attracted the attention of the dangerous criminal Nathaniel Essex (Sinister), who had long been obsessed with the name of Summers.
New house
Sinister then hid under the name of Michael Milbury and ran a laboratory disguised as an orphanage. When he found out about Scott's incredible abilities, he decided to reveal his full potential. And already figured out how to do it. The scientist separated him from Alex (returned his brother home), which made Scott emotionally vulnerable. Therefore, one day, waking up at night, he could not restrain his abilities and with a powerful beam destroyed the roof of the hospital. After the incident, the guy was sent to a long coma, and he woke up already in Michael Milbury’s shelter, where terrible experiments were conducted on people like him.
The uncontrolled and destructive power of the mutant Sinister restrained with the help of mental blocks. He himself pretended to be an orphan named Nathan, who constantly scoffed at Scott. And when they tried to adopt the boy, Nathan got rid of potential parents.
Scott Summers grew up, and along with this, headaches and fatigue in the eyes intensified, which was a consequence of the mutation. Something had to be done, and he was sent to Washington to the optometrist, who also pretended to be Sinister. There, the scientist found out that there is material that can restrain optical explosions. It was called ruby quartz. Having obtained a pair of crystals, Essex made special glasses for the guy. The pain subsided, and this helped the mutant escape.
First enemy
Out of control, Scott had a hard time. When metabolism reached a critical level, abilities again burst out. A powerful energy shot from the eyes hit a crane, which fell apart and began to fall on a crowd of people. With another blow, he managed to destroy the falling debris. But the crowd reacted negatively to Scott, and he had to hide. He later met a mutant named Jack Winters, who became his second father. But it was an illusion, since Mr. Winters was only concerned about his own goals.
He asked the mutant to help him penetrate the territory of a nuclear power plant, where under the influence of radioactive exposure he once gained abilities. Scott only agreed to help crack down on the guards, as he knew that otherwise Jack would kill everyone. Fortunately, his plan failed. The guy has long been monitored by Professor Xavier. He intervened and helped him defeat Jack. Then Scott received an offer that radically changed his whole life.
Among their
Professor Xavier owned a school for mutants, in which he taught them how to control abilities. He promised the same to Scott Summers. The guy agreed, but he had no other choice. He stayed at school and got his famous nickname - Cyclops (Marvel Comics), because of his glasses made of ruby quartz. Of course, he could not get complete control over his own forces, but he learned to use them confidently.
As time passed, and Scott met with other students, the same mutants, like him. Between themselves, they called him Slim because of a thin physique. As a result, a team was formed, which included Iceman, Phoenix, the Beast, the Archangel and Cyclops - the X-Men (the heroes of Marvel). Xavier was appointed leader of the group. During this time they became like father and son. Scott supported him in everything and was personally looking for new mutants.
Over the years, the Marvel Cyclops School has changed a lot. The silent and insecure guy disappeared somewhere. In his place appeared a real leader, who became one of the strongest mutants in the world. Strong-willed, disciplined, responsible and fearless, he quickly gained authority among others. And even when the composition of the X-Men changed, Cyclops always remained the leader of the team.
Romantic relationship
Xavier’s idea that someday all mutants could play cards peacefully and drink tea with people was completely passed on to Scott. He spent a lot of energy to bring this to life, until he thought about his own happiness. Cyclops fell in love with his colleague, telepathian Gene Gray (Phoenix), although he was afraid to start a relationship, because he knew that anyone who was next to him could not be safe. He was also not sure of his own attractiveness and believed that Gina liked Warren Kenneth (Archangel) more. But the telepath also liked Scott Summers, and soon they began a relationship that lasted long enough.
After the events in the Dark Phoenix Saga, where Gene Gray destroyed herself, Scott had other friends. Somehow he had to go aboard the fishing trawler "Arcadia". There he met captain Lee Forrester, and feelings immediately flared up between them. That's just Cyclops "Marvel" has not yet forgotten Jean Gray, so their romance did not last long.
Scott soon had to leave. He arrived in Alaska, where his brother Alex and grandfather, who owned a small airline, lived. When he introduced his pilots to the grandson, Cyclops spotted a red-haired girl, Madeline Pryor, an exact copy of Gina Gray. They began an affair, as a result of which the girl became pregnant. But after some time, the mutant again joined the X-Men and could no longer be constantly with her.
He often flew away on missions, and Madeline was left alone in the mansion. Scott was not there even when the girl had lost water. She was very offended, so the son of Cyclops "Marvel" received the name Nathan. Of course, this caused a storm of emotions in Scott. He wanted to name him Christopher Charles, in honor of his father. And this name reminded him of the bullying of the bully Nathan when the mutant lived in the shelter of Nathaniel Essex.
Abilities
How strong is the Marvel Cyclops? Like any mutant, it has certain abilities:
- Optical burst. The main ability of Cyclops is to project powerful rays emanating from his eyes. Mutant cells absorb this energy from the environment. The strength of the explosion is not known exactly, but if desired, it can penetrate thick armored steel. Although the amount of energy scooped is infinite, the mutant's endurance has its limit. By projecting rays for a long time, he may lose control of his power.
- Spatial understanding. Thanks to this ability, the Marvel Cyclops can emit its rays so that they are reflected from various objects. Thus, he can hit several targets at once.
- Energy resistance. Own energy is harmless to him.
Cyclops skills include:
- Leadership and strategy. During his time in the X-Men team, he developed strategic and leadership skills. Most of the mutants were ready to go with him on any task.
- Battle master Cyclops "Marvela" has good physical fitness and is good at martial arts.
- Resistance to mental attacks. During his studies with Professor Xavier, Scott became resistant to mental manipulation. It was difficult for even telepaths of the highest level to break through the defense of his subconscious.
- Pilot. He probably inherited good flying skills from his father. Therefore, he was often put at the helm of the personal ship of the X-Men.
