How to install a heating radiator with your own hands

Do-it-yourself installation of a heating radiator has its own characteristics. It all depends on what material the pipes are made of and what type of battery is selected. We will directly consider the installation process, when the components are already selected, and the number of sections is calculated for the required system power.

A single pipe heating system consists of one central heating main, parts of which are connected in series. The disadvantage of this connection is the impossibility of regulating the power of radiators without additional components (temperature regulators). In two-story houses, the first floor in such a system heats worse than the second. Two-pipe in this regard is more effective. Radiators in it are connected in several ways:

  • Lateral one-way connection. The coolant supply is connected to the upper pipe, and the return to the lower. If you swap the lines: the upper one is down, and the lower one is up, the heat transfer will decrease by about 7%.
  • Diagonal connection. The coolant supply is connected to the upper pipe on one side, and the lower (return) pipe to the lower one on the opposite. This connection allows you to install radiators with a large number of sections.
  • Bottom connection. The coolant is supplied from one side to the lower pipe, and the return to the lower pipe from the other. Such a connection system has the lowest heat dissipation, since the upper part of the radiator does not completely warm up. Such a connection scheme is used in highways laid under the floor.

Before mounting or replacing the battery from the heating circuit, drain the water and close the shut-off valves. It is recommended to install radiators under the windowsill. To improve heat transfer, the wall on which the battery will be installed can be coated with a reflective material, such as foil, or coated with a special composition with similar properties. Such a installation of a heating radiator with your own hands eliminates fogging of the windows and creates additional protection from the cold.

proper installation of heating radiators

For each meter of the heated surface, one bracket is used for fastening. Next, mark the places of their attachment. The radiator should "sit" tightly on all installed supports. Next, connect the batteries to the line according to one of the schemes, connecting them with the help of threaded holes. In single-pipe systems, the installation of a heating radiator with your own hands is carried out using a bypass - a special jumper with a smaller diameter, which is installed between the battery and the return. The joints of components must be sealed with tow or a special sealing tape. To connect the pipe to the radiator, you can use welding (at the joints of pipes).

Install the batteries

Correct installation of heating radiators includes observing the recommended installation distances:

  • from the radiator to the floor should be 6-12 cm;
  • the gap between the radiator and the wall is about 2-5 cm;
  • compliance with the arrangement strictly vertically and horizontally;
  • the distance to the windowsill is 10 cm.
