Cherry: tree diseases and pests

In Russia, half a century ago, cherry was one of the main fruit species. Its popularity was due to the ease of reproduction and unpretentiousness. Cherry seedlings grew annually in large numbers. The most famous and popular at that time were such varieties as Lyubsky and Vladimirsky. The latter, however, was low-yielding and with small berries. But he was very tall, and the fruits were dark and tasty. But Lyubskaya cherry belonged to weak-growing varieties, but was distinguished by high productivity and large berries.

But, unfortunately, from Scandinavia a disease of the cherry that was previously unknown for the European strip of Russia was brought in - this is coccomycosis. This is a fungal disease that affects the leaves of a tree. Premature leaf fall occurs. Trees leave for the winter unprepared and can be damaged even by slight frost. Over several seasons, such plants become very weak, and in one of the next winters they simply die. All old varieties of cherries in Russia turned out to be unstable to this disease, so breeders have bred new species that are more hardy, but can still be affected by coccomycosis. And if there is a massive defeat of trees, then cherry must be treated with fungicides. Diseases and pests are destroyed by the drug "Skor". Bordeaux liquid and copper chloroxide can be used, but they are less effective in combating coccomycosis.

Kleasterosporiasis (hole blotch) is a fungal disease. It affects flowers, buds, fruits, shoots, but most of all it is noticeable on the leaves. Affected by the disease, the flowers crumble, and the kidneys die.

Reddish-brown spots appear on the leaves with a lighter part in the center. Then these areas fall out and holes form. Red spots also appear on diseased shoots, which then turn into ulcers and fissures that secrete gum.

Cherry scab is a disease that manifests itself in late May. The leaves and the fetus become ill with it, on which a black coating appears. This is another of the fungal diseases that cherry suffers. Diseases and pests mainly affect the leaves, and with scab they begin to rust, curl up into a tube, then dry out and crumble. To combat at the first sign, โ€œToxin-Mโ€, โ€œKuprozanโ€, copper chloride are used.

These include: plum moth, cherry and bird cherry weevils, aphids, subcrustal leafworm, hawthorn.

And a whole series of sawflies: pale-legged cherry, cherry slimy and cherry public. Among the drugs that are active on all of the listed pests, we can name the following: Ambush, Aktellik, Karbofos. Spraying should be carried out then, as soon as you notice the appearance of these insects, and after 12-15 days the procedure must be repeated.

If you are not a supporter of the use of chemistry, then you need to attract birds and beneficial insects to their gardens that will destroy the pests. To do this, plant dill, flowers, burdock, dandelions and so on. And for the birds hang birdhouses. In the autumn, birds can completely clean your garden of most pests. Also used infusions and decoctions, which are prepared from the tops of tomatoes and potatoes, burdock leaves, onion husks, yarrow, chamomile, dandelion and calendula. It is clear that if folk methods do not help, then only chemicals can save the cherry. Diseases and pests should be destroyed at least 20 days before the harvest is harvested. But itโ€™s best to keep track of the first signs of disease and do it in more natural ways without exposing the environment to chemical attack.
