Door hinges: features and differences

When installing entrance or interior doors, door hardware requires a lot of attention : hinges, handles, locks, where the first is the most important element of any door. After all, without knobs and locks, doors can still function, but without hinges - nothing. Moreover, the quality of the door structure work depends on their material and its quality: its β€œlanding” in the door frame, opening. Therefore, first of all, when choosing a door, you need to pay special attention to the hinges.

Door hinges
Door hinges are made for metal doors, metal-plastic, glass and wooden doors. Also, they all differ in the method of construction and the type of fastening. According to the type of fastening, the hinges can be screwed and mounted. Screw door hinges are a fairly simple design, which consists of two cylindrical parts, on each of which there are soldered screws. This is a pretty organic design. One part of such hinges is fixed on the door leaf (screwed with rods), and the other on the door frame, and then the door is simply put on. If necessary, it can be easily removed.

Hinge door hardware
Hinged door hinges differ from screw hinges in the way of fastening. One of the plates is mounted on the door leaf with screws, and then the door is mounted on the door frame. Such hinges have a clear advantage and at the same time a drawback: the door is very difficult to remove from them. According to the method of construction, hinged door hinges are universal (one-piece) and detachable. Universal are a flexible design that can equally easily be attached to both the right and left sides of the door leaf. But if you want to remove the door, you have to unscrew them all. Detachable hinges are better in this regard. If you need to remove the door from them, you just need to lift it, but they should not be unscrewed. They are divided into right and left. Therefore, even before buying detachable hinges, it is important to think about where the door will open and in which direction, taking into account all the possible nuances.

Door hinge
Special attention should be paid to hinges for entrance doors. Due to the constant high load, door hinges must meet high quality standards. First of all, they ensure the safety of the home, and therefore are equipped with an anti-removable mechanism. This mechanism works very simply: on one of the wings of the loop there is a small hole, and on the other there is a ledge under it. With the door closed, the protrusion fits tightly into the hole, and it is not possible to raise the door. It is also necessary that the loop design itself be reinforced, the fittings for the input unit should be longer, and the material from which it is made - the most durable. The door hinge can be made of copper, aluminum or iron alloys . Most commonly used are brass (an alloy of copper and zinc) and stainless steel. In order for the strength indicators to be higher, alloys of steel or zinc are also used, and on top the product is coated with brass.

How to choose the appropriate type of loops? There are several criteria. Firstly, the door end and hinges must be structurally consistent. Secondly, they must support the weight of the door. In addition, it is necessary to take into account their wear resistance. It depends on how often the door will be used. The most wear-resistant hinges are those made of steel with bearings. And finally, the hinges should have an aesthetic appearance. Various caps and linings allow you to decorate them.
