Faroe Islands - rest on the edge of the world

If you want to feel the purest and transparent air that can fill every cell of your body with unique energy, if you like a soothing and peaceful silence, then this can be obtained by spending a vacation on the Faroe Islands in Denmark. This is one of the most beautiful places in the North Atlantic. The appeal of the local landscape lies in the vastness of the ocean, in the surrounding silence, which is broken only by the cry of flying birds.

The islands are a fairly deserted archipelago located between Iceland and Scotland. Despite the fact that their location is referred to such a term as “end of the world”, you can easily get here, for example, by plane from Britain or Scandinavia.

The main port and capital of the islands is the city of Torshavn, which occupies the territory in the southeastern part of the island of Streimoy. This is the largest settlement in these places. The Faroe Islands are 18 islands, among which one is uninhabited. From them to Iceland - 450 kilometers, and the distance to Norway is 675 kilometers. The population of the island is small, approximately 50,000 people, of which 20,000 live in the capital. There are remote islands, whose population does not exceed one hundred people. Residents are very friendly to all guests of the islands.

Those who decide to visit the Faroe Islands need to know that the climate is temperate. This makes winter not very cold, and summer not hot. It is not recommended to go on vacation from September to January, as during this period it rains on the islands and there is a thick fog. The temperature of sea water almost always remains unchanged and is plus ten degrees Celsius. This factor is very beneficial for the number of fish. That is why among vacationers, most of those who love fishing. This is a great place to catch cod, halibut, salmon and eel. The ideal place for fishing is Lake Pollur, located on the island of Streimoy. No less popular is the island of Nolsoy, where in addition to catching cod, you can see a large rookery of seals.

However, the Faroe Islands are not only fishing. Here you can take a wellness vacation, which consists of hiking, multi-day trips, visiting bird habitats and much more.

In the winter season, the water on the islands is particularly transparent, which makes them popular among divers. During this period, you can go down to the sunken ships, as well as clearly observe the scuba diving seals.

Among other entertainments during the rest, it is possible to carry out sightseeing trips with which to study the culture and life of the local population. In addition, various festivals are held on the islands, during which you can hear traditional Faroese songs, see round dances, colorful processions and all kinds of competitions. In a word, you can spend a wonderful vacation here. The Faroe Islands, in addition, have their own attractions.

On the island of Kalsoi there are a large number of various interesting caves. It is considered the largest mountainous island of the archipelago. An amazingly beautiful place is the Trelkonufingur rock, which means “troll woman’s finger”. Picturesque lakes such as Heimara-Halsavati and Noroara-Halsavati are located on Sandoy Island. And on the island of Vagar there is a mountain range Slave. Here you will see a unique sight - the waters of an alpine lake flow through a stone fence and fall into the ocean from a height of thirty meters.

In addition to natural attractions, the Faroe Islands offer to visit and architectural structures, including the Munkastovan Monastery, located in the city of Torshavn. On all sides it is surrounded by a high stone wall. This city has a historical museum that will be interesting to every tourist. Here is a unique building with a peat roof. On summer evenings, it hosts various activities for tourists. The city library is also located in this building.
