Izhevsk is the capital of Udmurtia and a large industrial, cultural, educational center. The city has several dozen educational institutions, museums and cultural development centers. Museums of Izhevsk are known far beyond the borders of the republic; there are scientific, educational, historical and art galleries.
Entertaining physics
One of the most interesting museums in Udmurtia is the Museum of Entertaining Science, created at Udmurt State University on the basis of the Faculty of Physics. Here are demonstrated devices, instruments, tools and apparatuses with which you can observe various physical phenomena. All exhibits are valid. Each visitor can become a participant in interesting physical experiments and independently conduct experiments.
The museum was created in order to arouse interest in science, in the study of the world and the acquisition of new knowledge. Armory Capital
The museum of the Izhmash plant is one of the oldest in the republic. The first school of arsenal students was opened here in 1827.
There was an exhibition of tools and weapons at the school. In 1847, as a result of a long correspondence with Nicholas I, the factory management opened a real exposition, where the best weapons of the time were demonstrated.
In 1887, the museum moved to the main factory building, by this time the exposition had more than doubled and became so interesting that it was honored by the presence of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich. The historical events of the beginning of the 20th century had a strong influence on the museums of Izhevsk. During the Civil War, valuable exhibits were looted, and after the Great Patriotic War the museum was closed for public visits for almost thirty years. Only in 1975, expositions were again open to visitors.
Weapon collection
The first hall of the Izhmash Museum presents historical exhibits, including edged weapons of the XIX century. The weapons of war are located in the second hall. The famous Maxim machine gun, rapid-fire air guns, anti-tank rifles - all the best examples of weapons produced since 1947 are collected here. The collection, located in the third hall, is dedicated to Mikhail Kalashnikov - the famous designer, inventor of the world famous machine gun. Recently, the fourth hall dedicated to motorcycles has opened in the museum.

Visual arts
One of the youngest, but already widely known museums in Udmurtia is the Museum of Fine Arts. Izhevsk, like any industrial city, acutely felt the lack of cultural and art centers. The Republican Museum of Fine Arts was opened by the city’s creative intelligentsia in 1980.
The first collection consisted of only 565 exhibits, and now in the museum's storerooms there are more than 11,000 items. The exposition is based on the canvases of the great artists who wrote at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: Vasnetsov, Shishkin, Serebryakova. The pearls of the collection are paintings by Italian artists of the early 19th century, representatives of the Flemish school of painting.
Graphics by Bryullov, Kiprensky and Klodt, watercolors by Benoit and Arkhipov - the museum funds are replenished with new, invaluable canvases.
Another area of the museum's work is the popularization of the works of artists of Udmurtia. Any exhibition held by the museum necessarily contains paintings from a collection of works by Kholmogorov, Elkin, Garipov and other eminent Udmurt masters.
The principle of the museum is based on temporary exhibitions, the exhibits of which change once a quarter. There is only one permanent exhibition; it is dedicated to the fine art of Russian and Western European artists of the 18th – 20th centuries.
A “Draftsmen's Club” operates at the museum, on weekends classes are held on the basics of restoration, for kids from 5 years old they conduct master classes in drawing. Museum Address: st. Kirova, 128.
