Lining fabrics: types and properties

Often when buying and wearing things we do not pay attention to the inside - the lining. However, this piece of clothing plays an important role, and a number of requirements are imposed on the materials used for these purposes. In the textile market, lining fabrics are presented in a wide assortment, and in order to make the right choice, you need to know what properties a fabric should have for one or another type of clothing.

Lining fabric properties

The purpose of the lining is not only to preserve product sections from shedding and blooming from the inside, but also to ensure optimal microclimate conditions in clothes. This is the most important point when choosing a material. In this case, the lining fabrics should have the following characteristics:

  • good air permeability;
  • absorb moisture that is released from the human body;
  • possess sufficient softness, strength and resistance to mechanical stress (friction, various types of deformation and others);
  • do not cause allergic reactions of the body;
  • light weight, so as not to create excessive load when wearing the product.

Types of Lining Fabrics

Lining fabrics are produced in a wide range, in which two main types can be distinguished:

  • natural fabrics: satin, flannel, bike, twill, silk;
  • synthetic materials: taffeta, knitted mesh, satin, polyester and polyester fabrics and others.

It can be noted that natural lining fabrics have excellent properties to create the optimal microclimate under clothes. However, they also have disadvantages, for example, cotton materials are quite heavy as a lining. In turn, synthetic fabrics tend to accumulate static electricity and have poor breathability. But recently, textile developers have achieved good results in the production of excellent canvases from synthesized materials. They have excellent characteristics such as lightness, high abrasion resistance and other mechanical stresses.

Highlights when choosing lining fabrics

When choosing lining material, the following information may be helpful.

  • In the production of demi-season types of clothing (jackets, raincoats and coats), it is better to use dense fabrics with a waterproof coating.
  • For knitwear, it is better to choose an elastic lining, the degree of elongation of which is equal to a similar characteristic of the base material. Also, the fibers on both types of webs should stretch in the same direction. The most popular is the lining fabric "mesh", it does not hinder movements and provides comfort when worn.
  • For summer types of clothing, viscose is the most suitable option as a lining, since fabrics made of these fibers are highly hygroscopic and not electrified.
  • Such a characteristic of the lining fabric, as color, is also important. The hue of the base material should be slightly lighter, while the cuts and other internal parts will not be visible through the lining.

The choice of lining material depends on the purpose of the product, while taking into account the main characteristics discussed above. Also, knowledge of the information provided in this article will probably allow you to make the right choice, and at the same time create a high-quality product.
