A profile is a rail made of galvanized cold rolled metal. With its help, you can design a frame of any complexity. In the modern construction industry, vinyl and metal profiles for drywall are used. Dimensions and materials are suitable for all mounting structures. Before starting work, you should know all types of profiles used in construction.
Profile Types
A guide (called UD) is installed around the entire perimeter of the room (if it is a ceiling) or on the floor, ceiling and parallel walls (if it is a wall). It is used to create the plane of the future frame. Guiding profile for drywall, the dimensions of which are very convenient in designer designs, can be of different quality. Strength depends on the thickness of the material being manufactured. The ceilings use thicker steel plate. A thin metal product is used for wall cladding.
Carrier (denoted by SD) - this is the supporting profile for drywall. Its dimensions (thickness and length) are different, as in the guides. The thinner the steel, the greater the number of fasteners installed. Designed for final construction completion. Responsible for the reliability and rigidity of the frame. It takes all the load, so it should be made of good galvanized material. Fastens by inserting into the guide (UD). It is calculated so that the outermost sheet of drywall ends in the middle of the profile. The main criteria for choosing are the width and height of the partition. It is screwed on each edge with small self-tapping screws ("fleas").
In addition to the two main ones, other types of drywall profiles are also used . Their sizes are very similar, but the functions differ from each other:
- Corner profile (PU) - designed to strengthen the outer corners. Mounted on plasterboard base with putty. It is also called a perforated corner. It is used in window or door slopes, the outer corners of walls and ducts. On the walls it serves as a lighthouse. With his help, the corner of the wall comes out smooth and sharp.
- Lighthouse (PM) - if the walls are very curved, special beacons are placed on the gypsum plaster, then putty is poured between them and pulled up by the rule.
- Ceiling guide - has the same functions as a regular profile, but it is much stronger. It is made especially for ceiling frames.
Vinyl Profiles
Drywall profiles, the sizes of which are different, are suitable for any user needs. In order to complete the installation of structures qualitatively, it is worth using vinyl profiles, the surface of which is easily processed. They are intended for end, external corners and non-standard walls. Protect from moisture, give completeness at the edges and connect the structure with window units and doors. There are several types of them:
- Arched (PA) is a curved arched profile. Used in curved drywall constructions. The radius of flexibility is 500 mm. Particularly suitable for column decoration.
- J-profile is very common. Made from hard vinyl. It is used to decorate the edges of drywall and is easily worn on it. It is well painted.
- A cable profile is a specially designed element. Used to install fiber optic cable. A soft cord is inserted inside so that the putty does not fall on it.
- The semicircular corner marker is a high-quality tool that creates smooth, perfect angles.
- Turn - serves to ensure consistent cable uniformity.
Profile Sizes
For each design idea, you can choose the right profile for drywall. The dimensions are designed so that when mounting the structure, a lot of extra pieces are not thrown out.
Guide Dimensionsprofile | length mm | width mm | thickness mm |
UD 27 | 2500, 3000, 4000 | 27 | 0.37 |
UD 50 | 2500, 3000, 4000 | fifty | 0.42 |
With the help of a wide range of different sizes, it is possible to choose the width and length of the element.
Carrier Dimensionsprofile | length mm | thickness mm | size mm |
SD 60 | 3000, 4000 | 0.42 | 60x25 |
CB 50 | 3000, 4000 | 0.42 | 50x50 |
SV 75 | 3000, 4000 | 0.42 | 50x75 |
CB 100 | 3000, 4000 | 0.42 | 50x100 |
Additional fastener
Sometimes builders encounter problems when they fasten profiles for drywall. Their sizes may be smaller than the required design. Therefore, the use of additional fasteners is necessary.
- A profile connector is a fastener connecting two carrier rails to each other. It is inserted into the ends of the two elements to be connected and is fixed with two metal "fleas" on each side.
- Suspensions - come with an anchor clamp and straight. This is a metal plate, easily bent in the form of the letter "P" and fixing the profile to the ceiling.
- Crab - a fastener for installing jumpers located between the rails.
Installation Tools
When working with a profile, you should have some tools:
- scissors for metal - they cut or cut the rail;
- Roulette - serves for measurements;
- notch - punctures holes in the details of the frame;
- marker or pencil - assigns cut lines;
- Scrapprofile - clamps for fastening.
Mounting and mounting
An important factor is the correct construction and fixing of the structure. First, the level is beaten off with an upholstery cord: for the top - horizontal, and for walls - vertical. The guides are exposed and fastened to the wall with a dowel-nail (size 6x40 mm or 6x60 mm).
In UD mounted carrier LED. Drywall profiles are then distributed horizontally. The step sizes are 40 cm, but it should be borne in mind that the connecting seam of the sheet should be in the middle of the rail. Reinforced suspensions are fixed to the ceiling along vertical lines in the form of the letter "P" with dowels "beech". The horizontal metal rails of the SD are set on the level and are attached to the plates with the help of "fleas".
After completing all the work on the structure of the frame, the sheets are screwed onto the profiles for drywall. The dimensions of the metal screws that secure the material are 25 mm or 35 mm. The step size is 15 cm.
