Breeding new varieties of roses is a task that breeders are constantly struggling with. Whatever beauties you meet in the world: green, blue, black, two-tone, striped or brick red, like our heroine - the rose of Terracotta.
Plant description
This variety was introduced by the Meilland rose gardening company. Gardeners soon appreciated it. From the name itself, we can imagine the color of the plant, although the manufacturer managed to exaggerate, calling it that way. In reality, it is red and has a brown tint. Just look at the photo of the Terracotta rose and it will become clear. If the lighting changes, the red-brown hue is complemented by orange tones. By the way, the first brown rose was Leonidas, bred in 1995.
Brick red - this color was invented by rose growers, in some reference books there is a comparison of its shade with the color of โunburnt clayโ. This is due to the fact that during the flowering period, a brownish tint appears on the edges of the petals. The diameter of the flowers ranges from 11 to 14 cm. The height of the bushes reaches 60-75 cm. Their width is usually equal to 60 cm, plants of greater width are quite rare.
The flowers are large in size, consist of 17-25 petals. The shape of the flowers is classic. They have a high center. The smell is absent. In this erect bush, young plants have a light green color, in adult wood - a medium green hue. The number of spikes is moderate.
We continue to review the description of the Terracotta rose. If you look at her foliage, it becomes clear that her density is sufficient. It blooms profusely. This variety is characterized by good disease resistance. Rose terracotta blooms constantly throughout the season.
Plant care
The described variety was bred as a cut. And, like all similar varieties, the Terracotta rose it will require a little more care and attention than other plants, in gratitude, you can admire its amazing flowers.
A more saturated shade of the flower will delight in cool weather. Hot and sunny weather is not very beloved by the plant. If possible, then an appropriate place should be selected for its landing. It is better if it is a solar flowerbed with an eastern exposure, that is, a place that in the afternoon will be shaded. You can come up with your own way of shading the plant from midday sunlight. Otherwise, the flowers will begin to dry out and burn out in the scorching sun.
Planting and feeding
Planting a plant in the ground should be planned for the spring, from late April to May, as well as for the fall months. It is watered regularly, but watering should be moderate. Feeding should be done repeatedly:
- In early spring.
- When the formation of buds begins.
- At the end of flowering.
- Before the lignification of the shoots begins.
Caring for a plant involves pruning it (this is done in spring and autumn), dried buds, diseased and weak shoots are removed.
Two methods are used for plant propagation: cuttings, layering.
