Suzuki boat motors are very popular in the CIS countries. Only the deaf did not hear about the company Suzuki, which produces cars and motorcycles of good quality. Outboard outboard motors (PLM) from the company Suzuki also gained very great popularity. Of interest are both push-pull and four-stroke models. Such engines are made in Thailand at Suzuki's own factory.
Outboard motor Suzuki DF6
Suzuki outboard motors in 6 horsepower there are many. All of them are four-stroke and differ primarily in the year of production. Since the old engines are no longer relevant and can only be purchased, they will be talking about the new 2016 Suzuki DF6A. The 2016 outboard motor has many differences from the old versions in the design of both the engine itself and the hull and suspension. Suzuki engineers designed a completely new enclosure and improved many of the parts that consumers didn't like.
The changes also affected the engine block, the main advantage of which was the so-called shedding. This is the name given to these motors by consumers because of innovations that allow this engine to be transported in any position (except as "upside down"). This was a hit in 2016 for all lovers of water-motor equipment, because other manufacturers of four-stroke engines could not boast of transportation in any position. The owners of four-stroke outboard boat engines suffered during transportation when they could not arrange their equipment standing up and at the same time they could not put it otherwise due to spillage of engine oil from the PLM crankcase in the trunk or in the passenger compartment.
Outboard motor specifications
The Suzuki DF6 engine has decent power and a large margin of safety. The cylinder volume of 138 cm 3 provides an honest 6 horsepower and a quick exit kit (boat / motor) in planing mode. The standard and at the same time reliable carburetor ensures stable operation at any speed in the range of 4750–5750. At the same time, the carburetor can be adjusted: idle speed, quality and quantity of the mixture.
The motor has a manual starter familiar to all captains of small vessels and engine speed control on the tiller. Do not cheat designers Suzuki DF6 and a primitive gearbox. We have a neutral gear on board and forward / backward.
Complete with a motor is a remote tank of 20 liters, and an integrated tank of 1 liter of fuel. The fuel for four-stroke engines is pure unleaded A95 gasoline. Compared to two-stroke engines, mixing engine oil with gasoline is not necessary.
As an option, you can buy and install a generator in each motor to charge batteries and power devices that consume 12V and 5A.
Features of the new Suzuki
The outboard motor 2016 Suzuki DF6 at first glance is almost identical with older Suzuki engines and with six-strong competitors. This impression is erroneous. The developers of the new Suzuki DF6 were puzzled and created a truly perfect motor for their purposes. First of all, the changes affected small things that an inexperienced captain would not even notice. The motor carrying handle was integrated into the plastic tray of the engine, thereby simplifying its carrying. The weight was reduced by exactly 1 kg. Total dry motor weighs 23 kg. The built-in fuel tank was placed above the carburetor so that gas would flow by gravity into the fuel line without any problems. At the same time, starting a Suzuki DF6 outboard motor is always simple and does not take much time.
Suzuki has developed a unique metal corrosion system. Corrosion-resistant coating is applied directly to aluminum. The coating remains a secret company and protects the metal from corrosion in salt water.
Fuel system and engine oil
The fuel line in the Suzuki DF6 consists of high-quality pipes that do not deform due to temperature changes and are not corroded by gasoline. Thus, using the motor at low temperatures or in extreme heat, you do not need to worry about fuel pipes. It has already been mentioned above that it is best to use unleaded A95 gasoline. If you fill the 92nd or 98th gasoline into the tank, the engine will start and drive, but how long it will be able to work on such fuel is not known. It is advisable to listen to the manufacturer and pour into the tank exactly the fuel that is prescribed in the operating instructions and characteristics of the Suzuki DF6.
Do not forget about oils for water-motor equipment. Pouring low-quality oil into the crankcase or oil not for outboard motors is strictly prohibited (you can use such products only at your own peril and risk). The smokiness of your engine and the total number of hours that it can work out depend on the quality of the oil. It is recommended to use high-quality oils for water-motor equipment of famous brands (Yamalube, Quicksilver, Motul).
From the quality of gasoline and oil, fuel consumption is also curled. The Suzuki DF6 has a ridiculous fuel consumption and you can go through a rather large water area on the built-in 1 liter tank. It all depends on the pace of movement. The more you twist the tiller handle, the faster the fuel runs out. Consumption also depends on the geometry of the boat, headwind, passenger weight and current. Therefore, no one says the exact numbers, but on average, the owner of the Suzuki DF6 can count on a consumption of 1.2 liters per hour at medium engine speeds.
Boat / Motor Kit
Since the engine is most often purchased for movement in one person, the Suzuki DF6 goes to the glider quite easily, unscrewing only half the gas. The main criterion for fast movement is the calculation of the weight and power of the motor. The formula is quite simple - 25 kg per 1 horsepower. This means that the Suzuki DF6 outboard motor will be able to push about 150 kg onto the glide, but this figure is not final, since many factors affect it.
Ways to go on a glide
An important role is played by the geometry of the boat. At present, PVC boats are very popular. For a quick and confident gliding of the PVC boat should be narrow and long. If for some reason the engine cannot push the boat onto the glide, you need to move closer to the bow of the boat. Weight distribution affects the driving performance of the kit.
Fans of the so-called egoist kits (when the boat / motor kit is designed for fast movement with only one person) often install a hydrofoil on the anti-cavitation plate. Hydro wings increase the area of the anti-cavitation plate and thereby the boat lifts its nose less during a sharp start and goes much easier to planing. There are also tiller extensions. Most often they are telescopic and are used to control the motor sitting on the bow of the boat (thereby the distribution of weight in the boat is greatly simplified).
Owners opinion
The considered outboard motor is most often bought by fishermen who fish near the coast or rafting on small rivers. For this reason, and reviews of the Suzuki DF6 are rather scarce. There can be no question of any seaworthy qualities of this motor. Nobody uses it in the open sea or in large reservoirs. To develop high speed will not work either. The maximum speed under ideal conditions can reach 25-28 km per hour. For small rivers and lakes, these speeds are enough for the eyes, but for open reservoirs is not enough.
Fishermen use the four-stroke Suzuki DF6 motor for trolling. This type of fishing and determines all the reviews about this motor. The main qualities are low fuel consumption at the minimum speed that this type of fishing requires, easy starting of the engine and a slight return of vibration to the fisherman’s hand when fishing. Inveterate fishermen opt for the Suzuki DF6 due to the new suspension design and tiller mount. The tiller is attached to the motor in such a way that it practically does not transmit vibrations to the fisherman's hand when walking on water. A reliable starter and trouble-free start in cold weather and on a very hot day leaves no chance not to peck and not get this miracle of engine building.
Breakage and repair
The main advantage of Suzuki is the affordable prices for any components and the availability of any parts for all motors that are not discontinued. Of the causes of breakdowns, only careless use can be distinguished. Sometimes plastic breaks, a gear knob and a motor cap breaks. All these types of breakdowns depend only on the owner.
Often, inexperienced captains fly at full speed towards the wind along a small river and do not notice stranded or driftwood sticking out of the water. As a rule, after such "pokatushek" people order a new deadwood (boot) motor. For the same reasons, the propellers break and the shafts bend. The main thing to understand is that you can break anything. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to relate to technology appropriately.
There are quite a lot of instructions for repairing a Suzuki DF6 outboard motor in the forums for water-motor equipment. But it is recommended that in the event of a breakdown, repair at an authorized Suzuki dealer so as not to lose the warranty on the goods. The engine block itself is very hardy and there should not be any breakdowns with the exception of a negligent attitude to the level and quality of oil in the engine.
Water safety
For safety in outboard motors a safety check was invented. This is such a special key, without which the engine will not start. It is interesting to watch how people try to start the outboard engine on the water without setting a safety pin. In this case, you can pull the manual starter at least all day. The motor will not start, and at best you will not break the motor starter.
The security check is attached to the clothes of the captain, who controls the boat. There is only one scenario: if the captain drops out of the boat, the check is pulled out and the motor stalls. If you don’t fasten your check, you can stay without a boat and motor, because there will be no one to drown it.
Security measures include lifejackets. Vests should be enough for all passengers of the craft. Often people start the engine with the gear engaged, mooring off the coast and chatting with friends. It must be remembered that the propeller of an outboard motor easily cuts not only algae. He is easily able to damage the legs of the interlocutors. It is also not recommended to walk on water on a motor while intoxicated.
