Jeans are a great example of a thing that can serve a person even after it ceases to exist as an element of clothing. Any home is guaranteed to have a pair of old shabby jeans that no one has been wearing for a long time. And they are lying on a shelf and waiting for their finest hour. After all, this is a universal source of materials for creating stylish, useful and interesting things. Brief instructions will help you do your own jeans denim in just a few simple steps.
Preparation for work
Before you take on jeans alterations with your own hands, you should perform some preparatory measures.
1. Preparing the workplace. It should be a comfortable desktop with good lighting.
2. We collect the necessary tools:
- scissors for cutting;
- ruler;
- chalk or soap for marking;
- sewing kit;
- stationery knife.
3. Equipment:
- iron for gluing non-woven fabric;
- sewing machine.
Do not forget about safety when working with electrical equipment and sharp tools.
Backpack of old jeans
Let's start with such a stylish and convenient accessory. The most popular denim do-it-yourself jeans alterations are attractive and functional backpacks.
To create this, you will need, in addition to jeans, you need: thin strips of fabric for decoration, a button for fastening the valve, non-woven fabric for preliminary labeling of strips of fabric, 6 eyelets, a cord.
Getting to tailoring a backpack
1. According to the size of the sketch, we cut out the details from jeans:
- Rectangle 73 * 37 cm - 2 pcs.
- Oval bottom 27 * 16 cm - 1 pc.
- Webbing 100 * 10 cm - 2 pcs.
- Valve - 1 pc.
2. We adjust strips of fabric on a non-woven fabric.
3. Rectangles (photo 1) are sewn together with long edges. On the sides we sew pockets from the back of the jeans (photo 2).
4. The seams of the main part are decorated with interlining with sewn stripes of fabric.
5. To the upper part we sew a denim trim. Grommets are installed in the lining, a cord is stretched.
6. Sew in the bottom.
7. Glue non-woven fabric to the valve with stitched stripes of fabric.
8. The edges are treated with a pigtail from the same cord. Leave a buttonhole.
9. Sew the finished valve together with the straps to the hem from the inside of the backpack (photo 4).
10. We measure the place for the button and sew it.
11. The finished product is shown in photo 5.
As you can see, a backpack of old jeans is sewn in just a couple of steps.
However, the quality of the material and tailoring, he will significantly exceed the factory counterparts.
Denim Organizer
And here is another interesting "homemade". A simple organizer from jeans pockets will help get rid of a bunch of unnecessary jeans, conveniently organize your workplace and decorate an empty wall.
For manufactures we need:
- a lot of old jeans;
- jeans or other fabric on which pockets will be sewn;
- shoulders, or a long bar and cord.
Production Instruction:
1. Determine the size of the future organizer.
2. Cut out the rectangle of the required dimensions from the canvas. If desired, the edges of the canvas can be processed.
3. With a small width, you can use the shoulders. Otherwise, we cut the wooden plank across the width of the canvas with a margin of a couple of centimeters on each side.
4. From jeans we strive off the necessary number of pockets.
5. We mark the places for pockets on the canvas so that the product turns out neat, without distortions. Leave the stock in the upper part for fixing on the bar.
6. Sew pockets on pre-marked places.
7. In the upper part of the resulting organizer, we grind in such a way that the bar freely enters into it.
8. Insert the bar into the grinder.
9. Tie the cord on both sides of the strap.
The product is ready, you can drive carnations into the wall, hang and shove all the tools interfering on the table in your pockets.
Soft toy from jeans
If the previous alterations from old jeans were functional and useful, then a soft toy made of denim with your own hands will please the kids or decorate the interior. Such a toy not only looks beautiful and stylish, but carries cosiness and a piece of home warmth.
In the instructions, consider an example of making a soft jeans hare.
We will need:
- sketch patterns;
- unnecessary jeans;
- bright fabric for the inside of the ears;
- any soft filler;
- Acrylic paints on the fabric to paint the face.
Procedure:
1. Dissolve the jeans into individual elements, mark out the details according to the sketch, taking into account the allowance for the seam, cut out (photo 1).
2. From jeans fabric we cut out only 2 parts of the ears, 2 more - from bright fabric.
3. Each pair is folded with the front sides to each other, stitched on a sewing machine or manually along the contour. Leave unbroken sections for subsequent inversion and filling with filler (photo 2).
4. Turn the resulting elements and stuff. Holes on the front legs are sewn with a blind seam.
5. We tighten the ears with seams at the base. We insert into the hole for stuffing the body and sew it with a blind seam (photo 3).
6. Sew paws and tail to the resulting torso (photo 4, photo 5).
7. With acrylic paints we draw a face, we decorate the resulting toy with accessories to our liking (photo 6).
DIY soft toy made of denim, especially such a funny little hare, is guaranteed to appeal not only to children, but also to adults. The simplicity of making the toy proves once again that denim do-it-yourself jeans do not require any special skills and are made from improvised tools with a minimum of tools. What could be better than a handmade toy with soul and love?
Denim pillow
Patchwork - a technique for sewing clothes and other things from flaps of fabric, which appeared several centuries ago and still remains popular. The style is used in the manufacture of blankets, pillows, pillowcases, clothes and accessories. Sewing a blanket or bedspread will take a lot of time, but to decorate the home interior with a remake of old jeans in the form of an original pillow, labor is practically not required.
In addition to jeans, for sewing a denim patchwork pillow you need:
- non-woven;
- stuff for stuffing;
- lightning;
- good supply of thread;
- sewing machine.
You can do without the last point, but then it will take a lot of time to sew pillows.
Brief Instruction:
1. Determine the size of the pillow and shape. We draw a sketch on paper (Fig. 1).
2. Divide the resulting picture into equal rectangles, making up the future pattern of the pillow.
3. Jeans are needed in several colors, so that the color of the pillow is more diverse.
4. Unzip the jeans at the seams.
5. Mark the rectangles with an allowance of 1 cm under the future seam (Fig. 2). Parts should be enough for the front and back of the product.
6. Cut out the marked parts.
7. We spread on a flat surface a preliminary view of the pillow. We make sure that the elements are not repeated.
8. First we glue all the elements together with the help of non-woven material along the bending lines (Fig. 2).
9. Stitch all the elements along the bending lines, at the same time stitching together.
10. Fold the front and back with the face inward. Stitch along the contour, leaving room for a zipper.
11. Sew in the zipper.
12. Turn the resulting product through the hole of the zipper and fill it with filler.
A patchwork-style denim pillow is ready.
Sewing technique is available even to an absolute beginner. But the results look like design decisions in interior design.
