Pokrovno-Tervenichesky monastery cannot boast of ancient history. Nevertheless, not only pilgrimage tours go to this monastery. Ordinary travelers also come there to plunge into the spiritual and measured life of the nuns. Yes, churches and chapels of the monastery are a remake, but this is not the point. The whole way of life of the sisters is imbued with the spirit of ancient monastic asceticism. Inmates do not live in the gate and hospitably receive visitors. History of the cloister
Many monasteries on the territory of the former USSR were founded on the site of the old ones, closed by the Soviet government. But in the village of Tervenichi there was no monastery until the October Revolution. Here stood only the parish church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin. Naturally, it was destroyed by the new government. What is interesting Tervenichesky monastery? The fact that it was formed much later than the community that inhabits it. The sisterhood was formed in the last years of the USSR under the Church of Faith, Hope, Love and Sofia, which was located in Leningrad. And in the summer of 1991, women who chose religious life began to look for a place for the future monastery. They visited the village of Tervenichi, which belongs to the Lodeinopolsky district of the Leningrad region. The sisters liked the place around the destroyed Assumption Church. The confessor of the community, Hieromonk Lucian, petitioned the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga John (Snychev) to establish a new monastery. And he received permission to found a monastery dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin. The cloister was assigned to the Tikhvin diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Thervenic Convent: Description
It took years to build temples, chapels and rooms with cells. Only on April 17, 1997 did the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decide to grant the sisterhood the status of a monastery monastery. The natives did the garden themselves, built a livestock farm for the production of dairy products, they work in sewing and icon painting workshops. The young Thervenic Monastery is also developing geographically. In the neighboring village of Svirskoye, a monastery compound was erected. And in the village of Pirozero a monastery was built with a special temple - the icon of the Mother of God “Inexhaustible Chalice”. The connection of the sisters with the St. Petersburg church of Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov and Sofia did not break. There was also built a monastery courtyard. Now the monastery is inhabited by about fifty sisters, headed by the abbess Lucian. Some of them live not in the main monastery, but in the courtyards or in the monastery.
Temples of the cloister
The Therhenic Monastery was consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God. Therefore, the main temple also bears this name. But the parish church, which used to receive the believers of the village of Tervenichi, is not forgotten. Through the efforts of the sisters, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin was newly erected. In this church, in its lower tier, there is a "cave" temple in honor of the saints of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The abandoned village cemetery was put in order, and a chapel was built on it, consecrated in the name of Christ's Resurrection. Even the cattle in the monastery are under the protection of God. At the monastery’s farm is a chapel dedicated to St. George the Victorious. During the construction of the monastery, the sisters “found” a source that they call a saint. A chapel of the Life-Giving Trinity was also erected above the spring.
How to get to the monastery
The Pokrovo-Terevenichsky Convent regularly hosts excursions for ordinary tourists who want to see the buildings of the monastery. In addition to churches and chapels, buildings with cells, a refectory, a hospitable house, as well as baths - the Upper Bath and the Lower, standing on the shore of a beautiful lake, are of interest. During religious holidays, the monastery receives worshipers. Indeed, within the walls of the monastery there are many saints to whom pilgrims long to venerate themselves. If someone came to the monastery for a period of more than one day, then you can spend the night in a strange house where you will be served meals. In addition to excursions and pilgrimage tours, there is another type of stay in the monastery. For those who want to work for the glory of God and for the good of the monastery, on Fridays, trips from the courtyard in St. Petersburg are organized. It is located at 57A Stachek Avenue. “Workers” are provided with accommodation and three meals a day.

Thervenic monastery is famous for its shrines. Among them are “miraculous” icons of the Mother of God, and a pebble from her tomb, and particles of the relics of St. Ursula of Cologne, the reverend of Kiev Pechersk, the martyr of Lucia. Among the images the most popular are “Add Mind." And from the sculptural images, attention should be paid to the Loret Madonna - an exact copy of the one that is stored in the Italian city of the same name. But a special pilgrimage takes place in the monastery of the Intercession-Terevenichsky monastery, which is located in the village of Pirozero. There is a temple with a unique icon "Inexhaustible Chalice". They say this image cures alcoholism and drug addiction. In this monastery, under the leadership of the nuns, young people, boys and girls, dependent on these destructive passions, live. They work for the glory of God until they recover completely.
Pokrovo-Tervenichesky Monastery: how to get there
We have already mentioned how to get to the monastery. Some travel agencies of St. Petersburg make excursions there. In the candle room at the church of Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov and Sofia (St. Petersburg), you can book a trip in a minibus. For "workers" such a trip will be free. And for the rest, a ticket costs 450 rubles one way. In Tervenichi the monastery is located at: Nagornaya street, 30, on the outskirts of the village, on the lake. A completely normal road leads to the monastery, so you can come here by your own car. The monastery is located in the Lodeinopolsky district of the Leningrad region.
