"Odyssey" is a fairy-tale poem, which takes place both in magical countries with giants and monsters where the wanderings of Odyssey took place, and in his own small kingdom on Ithaca, where Penelope (wife) and Telemachus (son) were waiting for him.
The narrative of “Zeus's Will” begins. At the advice of the gods, Athena defends Odysseus before Zeus. The summary of the poem tells of his being at that time in captivity burning with love from Calypso and his suffering from the desire to see his native coast. Meanwhile, in his kingdom, he is already considered dead, and his wife Penelope the nobles are forced to find a new husband and the king’s island. With the queen on Ithac is her son Telemachus, but he is still young, so no one takes him seriously.
Athena appeared to the prince in the image of the wandering friend of Odysseus. A summary of the adventures tells of her son’s call to search for a father, which Penelope’s potential suitors opposed. Imperceptibly Telemachus enters the ship and goes first to Nestor in Pylos. It turned out that the decrepit old man did not know anything about the fate of Odysseus. The prince goes to Helen and Menelaus in Sparta, where he finds out that his father is alive and suffers suffering on the island of Calypso.
With good news, Telemachus was about to return to Ithaca, but Homer interrupted the story about him. The Odyssey continues with a narrative of the main character.
Athena was able to help - by order of Zeus, Hermes goes to Calypso on the coast, Odysseus is released from the island. He quickly builds a raft and holds the path to Ithaca. Poseidon (the lord of the seas), angry at Odysseus for daring to blind his son Polyphemus (Cyclops), smashes an unprepossessing swimming device. But Athena again saves the hero, helping him get alive on the coast. The Odyssey is brought to life by the handmaids of Princess Sterha Nausikai, which shows him the way to the capital.
Arriving at the palace, the main character of the poem prays the governor of the feacs Alkinoi and his wife Aretha, so that they help him return to his native land.
The king asks to tell about the experienced adventures of Odysseus. The summary of his trip includes a story about meetings with many amazing monsters and peoples, about kikons, distinguished by their vengeance, about lotophages that present dishes that make you forget about your native land, about cyclops, about the lord of the winds Eola, about cannibals, about Kirk, whose turns a magical drink into animal people. Further, Odysseus still talks a lot about the ghosts that live in the Land of Shadows, about enchanting sailors singing Sirens, about a monster from the sea of
Scylla and Charybdis - a terrible whirlpool, about the cows of the Sun, about the nymph Calypso. The story lasted until almost the next morning.
Homer sends Odysseus, generously endowed with feacs, put on a high-speed ship. So King Ithaki returns to his homeland, which he has not seen for about 20 years. But here Odyssey is in danger - impudent grooms decided to kill him. With the help of Athena and Telemachus, he overcomes all obstacles and reunites with his wife. At this time, peace and grace are restored.
The fabulous Odyssey is striking in its plot, atmosphere and mood. The summary is more reminiscent of a romantic story than an epic riddled with heroism. The main character does feats not on the battlefield, but among monsters and wizards, so cunning and resourcefulness are no less important to him than courage and strength. Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, shows heroic resilience in the struggle for her love and loyalty. Mama’s son Telemachus is growing up towards the end of the story. The gods of Odyssey are peaceful and majestic; Athena is especially charming. The finale of the poem is permeated with the triumph of justice.
