One of the largest collections of museum values ​​in the country is the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art. His collections now have more than forty thousand pieces of storage, and these are monuments of both Russian, Eastern and Western European art from the fifteenth to the twentieth century, not counting those that reflect the history of this region.
History
The museum is located in a beautiful nineteenth-century mansion, which was built by Serpukhov merchants and textile magnates Marayev, designed by architect Klein. Even this building itself is almost the main rarity, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, in which the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art is located. It opened in 1920, and the collection of manufacturers Maraevs became the basis of the meeting.
Until the thirties, museum funds were constantly replenished with those works of art that were previously kept in the surrounding estates and in the central vaults. Now the Serpukhov Museum of Fine Arts has divided the exhibition into two sections. This is Russian art from the beginning of the eighteenth century to the present day and Western European - from the seventeenth to the end of the nineteenth century.

Serpukhov is a small city, but the museum does not feel a shortage of visitors, many specially come here to get acquainted with this wonderful place. Western European art is widely represented by paintings of Dutch, Flemish, French, Italian and many other schools from the sixteenth century to the nineteenth. Program
The most interesting of the programs presented to visitors, which was developed by the Serpukhov Museum of History and Art (Serpukhov), is Time Travel. The “mistress of the house” in the appropriate costume escorts guests to the merchant’s mansion, the nobleman in a wig talks about portraits of the eighteenth century, and “The Knight at the Crossroads” - Vasnetsov’s famous canvas - personifies the guide in the military armor of ancient Russia. Here a scene from the life of old Russian boyars is played out live: the bride-hawthorn is being prepared for the wedding. This is a magnificent illustration to the presented painting by Makovsky “Down the aisle”: stylized dialogues sound, from which visitors learn about the wedding traditions of Rus of the Middle Ages. Guests of the Wanderers see a gypsy who has come down from the picture of Yaroshenko, who even offers to tell fortunes. Naturally, everyone from here carries away the wishes of goodness and love, which must come true in the very near future. Interactive programs
"Enchanted Cup" - a program designed for primary and secondary school age. Children will learn about the appearance and distribution, as well as about the main types of Russian porcelain, watch a presentation of a shadow theater, and then they will paint plaster models with selected patterns.
"French lessons" is an interactive program for older students of a comprehensive school, in which they improve their knowledge of the language and expand their vocabulary. Interest in art entails a love of French, which was previously widespread in Russia.
