Italmas is a flower of Udmurtia. For hundreds of years, it adorns with its sunshine floodplain meadows rich in vegetation, located along the small and large rivers of this magical land.
Description
Italmas flower, or European trollius (Latin name tróllius europaéus), is a herbaceous perennial plant whose height does not exceed 1 meter. Belongs to the family Ranunculaceae. Most often, one plant has no more than five flowers that exude the finest honey aroma and never fully open. Their diameter is from three centimeters or more. In the photo, the italmas flower is clearly visible, and you can see that its spherical petals have a beautiful golden color.
As you know, this plant pleases with its beauty from May to mid-June. From year to year, these exquisite flowers suffer from disproportionate fees. In total, there are more than 30 types of bathing pools on the planet, however, only one of them is found in Udmurtia. It is listed in the Red Book not only in this republic, but also in some other regions of Russia, as well as neighboring countries.
Italmas as a symbol of Udmurtia
The name of this flower is very popular in the republic. In many respects this was promoted by the famous work of Mikhail Petrov Italmas. A classic of Udmurt literature created his legendary poem back in 1938. It tells about the tragic fate of the Italmas girl, who was tied up for the old wealthy Baytugan, who killed her beloved Kamash. The villain set fire to the village and forest, and he burned himself in a conflagration.
The bold Italmas threw herself into the fire and managed to extinguish it, but she herself turned into a sunny golden flower. Since that time, for the Udmurts, he began to symbolize hope and joy, love and sadness, separation and loyalty.
The legendary Italmas flower is also present in the name of the Republican State Ensemble, the artistic director of which is Anatoly Mamontov. The grateful audience is always looking forward to new concert programs of this illustrious collective.

There are several versions regarding the scientific origin of the name of this flower - tróllius. According to one of them, its name appeared thanks to the German word trollblume, which in translation means “troll flower”. The fact is that in many Scandinavian and German legends this plant is often mentioned. He was considered the favorite flower of fairy tale characters - trolls. According to another version, its name was derived from the Latin trulleus, meaning "round vessel". The next option is the Old German word troll, which translates as “ball”.
Italmas flower in Western Europe is considered a mountain plant, and in Eastern - forest glades, river valleys and meadows.
