Maintaining an optimal indoor climate during the heating season is important not only from the point of view of the health and comfort of the people living in it, but also to save the budget. Temperature monitoring in order to optimize the operation of the heater is provided by a temperature sensor, or, as it is also called, a thermostat.
What is a temperature sensor, and what is it for?
A temperature sensor is an extremely useful invention of civilization, because it not only makes our life more comfortable, but also helps to increase the productivity and service life of the heater. The wireless temperature sensor is especially convenient in this regard, since it is connected to the boiler without the use of electrical wires. It is he who more often than other types is acquired to control the operation of the heating system.
The temperature controller is an electronic device designed to regulate the operation of the boiler depending on the programmed temperature mode. If temperature sensors for boilers are not installed, the heating system is controlled manually by the user. The problem is that only the temperature of the coolant is regulated independently, and not the air in the room, as a result of which temperature jumps and excessively intense operation of the unit can form. This, in turn, will lead to premature boiler wear and excessive fuel consumption.
Advantages of a room thermostat
The wireless temperature sensor has a number of indisputable advantages:
- Increasing the operating life of the heating boiler. Of course, most of the models have a built-in thermostat. However, such a device turns the boiler off / on as the temperature of the heat exchanger reaches the desired level, while the temperature in the room and in remote places of the heating system may differ. Moreover, if we take into account extraneous factors affecting the microclimate in the room: heating with sunlight during daylight hours, changing weather conditions, a large number of people in the room, etc. Thus, without an additional temperature sensor, the boiler will turn on and off an excessive number of times leading to wear on the parts of the unit.
- Saving. If we consider the option, when there are external factors that increase the level of air heating in the room, the boiler will work less, which means less fuel and energy will be consumed. It has been established that a wireless temperature and humidity sensor can save up to 30% of consumed resources.
- Comfort. Maintaining the desired temperature is the task of an additional thermostat, yours is to specify the desired temperature in the programmer. Installing a temperature sensor saves you from having to reconfigure the gas burner every time you change the weather and other conditions that affect the indoor climate.
How does a wireless temperature sensor work?
The principle of operation is very simple: the user in the programmer menu sets the desired temperature. As soon as the air temperature in the room reaches the set value, the data enters the control unit and the boiler turns off. And as soon as a decrease of one degree is lower than the set norm, the sensor transmits an electronic signal to the heating unit, and the burner lights up. In some modern models, the sensor is able to respond to temperature fluctuations even by 0.25 degrees.
Connection Features
According to the connection method, the temperature sensors for boilers can be of two types: wired and wireless. The first are connected to the heating device using wires, through which, in fact, a signal is transmitted to resume or stop the gas burner. A wireless temperature sensor does not imply the use of wires, which means it can be installed in another room. The signal in this case will be transmitted remotely using a radio device.
Types of room thermostats by degree of automation
According to the set of functions and the method of controlling the temperature sensor, two types of devices can be noted:
- Simple thermostats. Such temperature controllers have only one function - maintaining a given temperature value.
- Programming devices allow you to monitor the temperature at a higher level, with the ability to establish the temperature regime for a whole week with alternating the desired morning and night temperatures. Such devices are undoubtedly more convenient to operate, have a modern design and a higher price.
Features of placement and installation of thermostat
For maximum efficiency of the functioning of the heating system, manufacturers of temperature controllers advise compliance with several simple rules:
- The temperature sensor should be installed in the coldest room of all heated, in places remote from radiators and other working devices that can radiate heat. When choosing a location for the sensor, it is necessary to exclude the possibility of mechanical damage to the device during operation. According to the technical rules, a room thermostat is mounted at a height of 1.3-1.5 m above the floor.
- It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and drafts on the temperature sensor for the most correct data tracking.
- Install and configure the temperature controller strictly in accordance with the operating instructions.
- If possible, choose a thermostatic device of the same company as the boiler, to ensure the greatest compatibility of devices.
