Brest is located in the south-west of Belarus, on the border with Poland. It was this hero city that was the first in 1941 to take the blow of the Nazi army. Subsequently, the Brest Fortress received the title of “hero”, in memory of and boundless respect for all those who died on its territory, and became a cult memorial place known throughout the former Soviet Union.
For tourists, Brest is a very attractive facility. Getting to the city is not difficult, because Brest is a major railway junction. From the Brest-Tsentralny station you can easily leave both to Europe, and to Russia or Ukraine. When leaving at the Brest station, tourists immediately get into the historical part of the city.
Station History
The station was built in the XIX century under Tsar Alexander. The station building resembled a fortress and was considered one of the largest and most beautiful in the then Russian Empire. Already at that time, the infrastructure of the station was quite developed. For reception of honored and important guests there was a buffet. There was a post office, police, and leisure rooms.
The railway station was subjected to significant damage twice. For the first time during the First World War, the station suffered especially badly and was restored by 1929. The second time, during the Great Patriotic War, the building was partially destroyed. Under Stalin's personal control, the station was restored to its former power and strength in the post-war years. Throughout the XX century, the station was completed and reconstructed. The last large-scale reconstruction was carried out in 2008-2014.
Station station "Brest-Central" is included in the list of UNESCO monuments and is an architectural monument of Belarus. In 2016, it celebrated its 130th anniversary. Brest train station is included in the tours of tourist programs. Brest station is recognized as the best in the country.
Changes after reconstruction
In 2014, the reconstruction of the Brest station was completed. The station was improved, comfort increased, the level of equipment and services approached the European one. On the main routes laid tactile tiles for visually impaired people, replaced the tiles on the sidewalks, old benches, fences, lampposts.
All signs with information, as well as a scoreboard with the schedule of trains "Brest-Central", are available in English and Belarusian. Ticket offices have been updated. In the hall of international cash desks there is a cash desk with English service.
On the forecourt there are numerous benches for relaxation and various cultural compositions from green spaces and small fountains. Free parking for cars is nearby.
The station building itself has also been refurbished and repaired. Modern windows and sliding doors are installed. The station is equipped with a video surveillance system and automatic lighting. On the bulletin boards broadcast the schedule of Brest-Central.

What to see?
Not far from the station there is a city park, from which you can easily reach the fortress. Also, getting from the station to the fortress will not be difficult by public transport or taxi. Culture and Leisure Park offers visitors amusement rides, shooting gallery services, cafes, playrooms for children. In the fortress, in addition to the Memorial complex itself, you can visit:
- military museum;
- History Museum "Berestye";
- Museum of steam locomotives, located next to the fortress.
In the immediate vicinity of the station is the city center with the famous pedestrian street Sovetskaya. There are many cozy cafes and bars where you should eat and relax. If you wish, you can also visit the nearby promenade and take a boat trip.
