Garden bobovnik: types, cultivation and care

Garden bobovnik is an amazing ornamental plant that is actively used in garden design. This representative of the flora belongs to the legume family and is a deciduous shrub. It can grow up to 7 m. This plant looks great, especially during flowering. It begins towards the end of May. Inflorescences are collected in golden long brushes that look very impressive. Therefore, the people call it the golden rain. Garden bobbin, despite its beauty, is very poisonous. All parts of this representative of the flora contain cytisine (a toxic alkaloid).

There are three varieties of this plant, which grow in southern Europe and in Asia Minor countries: common bean (anagirolifolia), alpine and Vaterera. However, for floristic compositions, one of them is most often used. This is an ordinary bean. Three decorative forms were bred on the basis of this representative of the flora: weeping, golden and autumn. Garden bobovnik has drooping light-brown branches and leaves with a hairline in the lower part. This plant is a honey plant. The second most popular is the Alpine bean. It is actively used to create protective landings, plant canopies and landscaping. The main advantage of this species is its high frost resistance.

Bobovnik is a shrub that needs soil with sufficient calcium and good drainage. Soils are especially suitable for it, which do not accumulate a large amount of moisture and easily give up its excess. This representative of the flora grows well even on poor soils. In the first 2-3 years after planting in the ground in winter, the plant must be covered, otherwise it will freeze. With heavy snowfalls, it is necessary to remove snow from the branches of this representative of the flora so that they do not break under its weight. Garden bobovnik perfectly withstands drought, however, for a more comfortable shrub and moisture in the soil, it is advisable to mulch with compost or peat.

The plant loves areas that are well lit by the sun, or partial shade, but grows well in shady places. In windy areas it is better not to plant it. Bobovnik has a magnificent beautiful crown, which does not need to be trimmed. However, you can trim and trim it moderately (to give the best decorative qualities). In summer, moderate watering is required.

Breeding

Golden bobovnik propagated by green cuttings, layering, seeds and division of the bush. You can buy special seedlings in the garden store, but there are nuances here. In order for the plant to tolerate winter well, the material for reproduction should be from a locality similar in climatic conditions. It is preferable to propagate this shrub with seeds that are collected independently. To enhance winter hardiness, they can be stratified in the refrigerator (no more than 1.5 months). Sow seeds in early spring under glass. After about a month, the first shoots appear. Under favorable conditions, this plant can easily live up to 100 years.
