What is modular origami
A new hobby captivates more and more people. Modular origami is an invention of the Chinese. The main difference from the traditional way of folding shapes is the ease of implementation. First, a large number of small modules from multi-colored paper are assembled, then they are “linked” into three-dimensional figures.
Folded paper sheets can be nested or glued together for great durability. Modules are different, but the most commonly used and convenient are in the form of a triangle. Making them quick and easy, and the mounting options allow you to create complex and beautiful shapes.
How to fold modules correctly
A triangle is made up of a rectangular sheet of paper. The material itself must be durable, otherwise the figure will not have sufficient rigidity, and just fall apart. Therefore, wipes for modular origami are not suitable. The sides of the rectangle should be correlated in a ratio of 1: 1.5. You need to take A4 sheet and divide it into 8 parts on the long side, and on the short - into 4 parts.
Folding the module is easy, the circuit is very simple and straightforward. The last step of the figure shows a method for coupling two triangles. The module is folded in half, with the edge turned inward. It turns out two small pockets where you can insert another or two triangles.
Create an animal
There are no strict schemes for assembling modular origami goats, sheep. The beauty of modular work is that it is a creative and fun process. The main thing is to understand the principle of creating the required form. For those who assembled a modular origami goat, it will not be difficult to slightly modify the work and get a sheep already. You can simply add a large number of triangles and experiment with assembly options.
For such a modular origami, a goat will need:
- torso - 174 modules of size 1/32 from sheet A4;
- head - 109 modules of size 1/64 from sheet A4;
- ears - 2 modules of size 3x5 cm;
- horns - 16 modules of size 1/128 from sheet A4;
- hooves - 4 modules of size 1/32 from sheet A4.
Head assembly is carried out in a circle. It is necessary to assemble 10 modules together, as shown in the photo - this will be the first row. If you look at the image, then the principle of fastening becomes clear.
In the second row, you need to add 5 more triangles, and hook them with 10 modules of the next row. The 4th row also consists of 10 triangles. It is better not to work with glue immediately, some details will need to be bent into forms.
Next, you need to give the head a shape, as in the photo. To do this, you need to carefully move the module mounts in the assembled rows. The fifth row will require 10 triangles and 3 additional ones anywhere. But this is not the end of the work. Next, we fasten the added triangles, in total 13 modules in 6-9th rows will be needed.
In the 10th row, it is necessary to reduce the number of triangles to 9 pieces. Some modules just need to be skipped; the image shows how to do this. It is necessary to try to give the head a complete look.
Prior to this, the modules were assembled on the long side. For horns, you need to insert 7 triangles into each other with the long side, and the 8th and 9th are inserted short, in order to get a beautiful bend.
Horns, ears, beard and eyes are glued to the head. You need to give the details a suitable shape with simple folds. The head can be attached to the body with a toothpick.

The next step is much simpler and takes very little time. To create the body of a modular origami goats, sheep need to make blanks. Each such part should consist of 4 triangles.
The back of the animal is made of 10 pieces assembled in a row. To fasten them together, you need 18 conventional modules, 9 on each side. In the third row, you need to add one triangle from each end and fasten as shown in the photo below.
The next three rows are assembled from 22 modules. Then you need to skip the triangle in the center, and another one in the next row. In total, you should have 20 modules left at the end.
Now you need to make the legs. At the corners, first add three modules, then two and one, the last are the triangles - hooves of a different color. It remains to attach the head and tail to the body. Modular origami goats ready!
