It turns out that the main distinguishing feature of such a structure is that it has the most important place, that is, the department. This word comes from Latin and means “throne”, “chair”. Who is this important place for? Of course, for the bishop.
The department is not always in sight. It is removed and installed only when a special service is ahead. Not every cathedral can be cathedral. But if he was awarded this honorary title, then it will remain with him forever. Moreover, the bishop is not obliged to serve only in this temple. He may decide to build another building, then a new cathedral will appear in some city.

During his last visit to the Altai Territory, Patriarch Kirill consecrated a place on which a new cathedral will soon be built. This site is located in the Oktyabrsky district, next to the Transmash Palace of Culture and the Solar Wind Park. It is interesting that this place was not immediately chosen - initially there were three options for sites that could accommodate the new cathedral in Barnaul.

Finding a temple
At the construction site there is now a stone with a copy of a plate with an inscription, consecrated by Patriarch Cyril on it. Funds from the local, as well as regional and in addition to this, federal budgets, as well as personal funds of the Russian Orthodox Church, will be allocated for the construction.
A new cathedral in Chelyabinsk will soon be erected. It will be called the Nativity of Christ. A spacious temple can accommodate three thousand parishioners. Nonexistent temple
And in one of the cities of Russia there is a relatively new cathedral, which is not there. The fact is that it was built and then destroyed. Currently, there is a square in its place, and underground is the basement and foundation of the destroyed cathedral, which has survived to this day. To see it with your own eyes, you need to go to the city of Vyborg.
Earlier in this square, a monument to Stalin was erected on the site of the temple . And they destroyed the cathedral in the middle of the 20th century. Although even the Leningrad Commission for the Protection of Monuments at that time considered it a valuable architectural object. And indeed it is. It was built in the 19th century. The reason for this was that the old church could no longer accept all the parishioners.
Therefore, according to the project of Eduard Dippel, a new cathedral was built, which was consecrated in 1893. The neo-Gothic cathedral now housed 1800 parishioners. The city of Vyborg was undoubtedly decorated with a beautiful and majestic temple. In the cathedral, an authority was established for 4 registers. And already in 1929 it was replaced by a more powerful one, which became one of the largest in Northern Europe. He already possessed 76 registers.
From different sides
On the west side of the cathedral a tall bell tower was installed. At the entrance to the cathedral from 1908 to 1940 there was a monument dedicated to Michael Agricole, who translated the Bible into Finnish, was an enlightener and the first bishop of Finland, who was a Lutheran.
The fate of this monument is interesting. During the Patriotic War, he was lost, but in 1993 the city was presented with a copy from the bust of Agricola, located in Turku. Now he is in the lobby of the Alvar Aalto library. In the civil war, the victims of Vyborg were buried on the south side of the cathedral. In 1919, a monument to the hero was erected on this site, which was destroyed. But in its place there is currently a memorial plate, which was installed in 1993. And in the 40s, people who died in the Patriotic War were buried near the walls of the temple. Although the cathedral itself was almost destroyed after the bombing. In the 1950s, what was left of the cathedral was completely dismantled.
Not only with us
A new cathedral recently opened in Paris. It is located on the Branly embankment. A plot of land for the construction of the temple was purchased back in 2010. Construction began in 2015 and finished in 2016. The Christian Trinity Cathedral symbolizes the closeness of the cultures of France and Russia. Previously, the cathedral in Paris was a small temple.
