Zhukov Medal

In honor of Zhukov

A lot of books have been written about his rare analytical gift to anticipate the actions of the enemy, and about his steadfastness and ability to fight. The city, numerous streets, metro stations, the Military Academy, a tanker, a ship, etc. were named in his honor. In 1994, a state award was established - the Zhukov medal. And in 1995 - the annual State Prize of the Russian Federation for achievements in military science and the creation of military equipment, for the best works of art and literature dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

This award was established by the corresponding Decree of the President of May 9, 1994 under number 930 “On the establishment of the Zhukov medal”, which became an addition to the law “On State Awards of the Russian Federation”. And on March 6 of next year, the status and position of this state medal was determined.

Medal of Marshal Zhukov
On May 9, many WWII veterans have a Zhukov medal on their chest. For what they give this award, it is not difficult to guess: for the courage, stamina, and, of course, for the courage shown by servicemen and civilian employees as part of the Red Army or Navy. It was received by the NKVD troops as well as partisans with members of the underground for heroism during the hostilities not only with the Nazis, but also with the Japanese militarists. Some were honored with this award to commemorate the centenary of the birth of this great marshal. The basis for the award are documents that confirm the direct participation of a person in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 as part of the army or in battles against Japan.

Description

Zhukov medal for what they give
Marshal Zhukov's medal is issued by decree of the President of the Russian Federation. On its front side is a relief image of the marshal himself. In the upper part it is written: "GEORGE OF BEETLES". At the bottom are oak and laurel branches.

On its flip side in the center flaunts the phrase "FOR EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE". Along the edges, Zhukov’s medal is bordered by a side.

When wearing it on uniform, an eight-millimeter high bar and a twenty-four-millimeter wide ribbon are used. A miniature copy of a diameter of 1.6 centimeters is worn on the block. Zhukov's medal with the help of a ring and an eye is connected to a pentagonal bar. At the same time, the left half of the ribbon is red, and on the right are five longitudinal stripes of equal width in width, three of which are black and two are orange.

Medal of George Zhukov

Remarkable

An interesting fact is that the Zhukov medal is made with inaccuracy. There is an error in the image of the marshal himself. The fact is that the commander was four times awarded the Star of the Hero of the USSR. Moreover, the third and fourth of them were awarded to the Marshal in June 1945 and December 1956, respectively. On the form in which Zhukov is depicted on the medal, there are all four Stars, however, a similar uniform - a single-breasted and with a standing collar - was canceled in April 1945. And this means that in such an image there can only be two awards, those that the marshal received before that.

On February 20, 1997, in our country, an unregistered public organization, which was called the "Permanent Presidium of the Congress of People's Deputies," began to issue medals with a similar name: "Marshal of the USSR Zhukov." She was awarded, as stated in the decree PPSND, "... veterans of the Great Patriotic War and labor, as well as the Armed forces and law enforcement agencies in the USSR, people who suffered the Leningrad blockade and the most active participants in the national patriotic movement." Interestingly, the production of awards was proposed to be financed by the awarded. At the beginning of 2002, the Ministry of Justice warned Sazhi Umalatova, the chairman of the PPSND, that it was unacceptable to issue medals or other awards with Soviet symbols, and also appealed to the Prosecutor General with a statement on the adoption of prosecutorial response measures on this fact. As a result, the issuance of pseudo-medals was discontinued.
