According to the definition, science is one of the types of people’s activities aimed at obtaining, optimizing, systematizing and developing objective information, knowledge about the reality of a person, phenomena of the past or the present.
Relevant activities are an integral part of people's culture. Its fruits constitute a cultural heritage in the same way as the creations of artists, musicians, architects or representatives of other professions.
What is needed for science?
Science in the broad sense of the word includes everything that is necessary for its implementation. That is, these are the conditions necessary for the activities of scientists, and other components.
Elements necessary for scientific activity include:
- accumulation and archiving of knowledge;
- institutions, equipment, supplies.
Methods, research and experiments are ways to engage in science.
The basis for the research work are:
- collection, analysis and systematization of objective facts;
- observation of occurring events and recording results;
- conducting surveys.
Theories and hypotheses based on existing assumptions are assumptions that need confirmation. In the presence of facts or statistics proving their truth, they become scientific provisions or laws.
What is the difference between science and other forms of culture?
Elements of culture are not only language, artistic symbols, traditions, rules of behavior, spiritual values and others. These are also all existing methods, options for self-expression of people and their activities.
Thus, what distinguishes science from other forms of culture is its narrower specificity. Of course, there are other differences, consisting in such concepts:
- rationality;
- focus on cognition and study, and not on the appropriateness of applying the achieved result;
- scientific activity has a common value for mankind.
Research work is characterized by the desire to consider, understand and, in some cases, reproduce the object of study. This is what distinguishes science from other forms of culture.
