Masonry mortar - methods of preparation and use

Masonry depends on the solution, or rather, on its quality. The components for the mixture are binders, filler and water. The purpose of the mixture is to bind individual bricks, blocks or stones into a single whole. Solutions differ in the quantitative ratio of filler and binder. For example, 1: 3 means that you need one part of a binder and three parts of a filler. The solution for laying the furnace may be simple, but may have a complex structure. Complex are called cement-lime, cement-clay, lime-clay mixtures. The solution for laying the furnace can be skinny, that is, it has low strength and ductility, and bold - it is characterized by high ductility, it cracks when dried. Normal mixtures are most often used in the work, they have medium ductility, durable, not susceptible to cracking and have minimal shrinkage.

Clay solution

It has one big drawback - it is destroyed by moisture. Because of this, it is used only in the construction of the furnace massif, but is not used for the pipe or foundation. The density of the substance also plays a role in the quality of work. It should not come across lumps, clots or grains, and the consistency should resemble sour cream. Clay mortar for bricklaying a brick is prepared according to the scheme: clay and sand are combined in equal proportions or two parts of sand are taken to one part of clay. Water is a quarter of the clay volume. If chamotte or refractory blocks are used to erect the structure, the components of the mixture will be refractory clay and chamotte.

Lime mixes

They are used in the construction of the foundation for the furnace and the erection of pipes over the roof. They include: lime dough, sand and water. To make the masonry mortar more durable, cement is added to it. If the mixture is used for plastering, you can add gypsum, it will set faster. The quality of the solution completely depends on the lime test, which is obtained from slaked lime. It must be filled with water and kept in the pit for a certain time. Lime can be slow extinguishing, medium extinguishing and quick extinguishing, and each has its own approach.

Cement mortar

It consists of cement, sand and water. This mortar for masonry is the hardest. It can gain hardness both in damp soil and in air. It is used in the construction of the foundation on such soils and when lifting the pipe above the roof. A cement mortar has the ability to quickly set, which is convenient in operation, but if it is not immediately developed, it begins to lose its strength. The strength and compression of the mortar is affected not only by the quantitative ratio of the components, but also by the brand of cement. The mixture can be difficult if you add lime dough to it, it will not lose its qualities from this. If you have a masonry diagram of the furnace and the necessary material, you can try to erect it yourself. The only limitation in this work will be the ability to read the drawings correctly and strictly follow them.
