The main types of diseases

All diseases of these garden bushes can be conditionally divided into two types: verticillous drying and withering of branches and shoots and various spotting. Let's consider them in more detail.

How does gooseberry verticillosis wilt and dryness affect? Diseases of this kind affect the branches and leaves of bushes. In the first case, leaf wilt is observed, which at the same time acquires a yellow color. It does not crumble from the branches, but remains attached to them. The second name for gooseberry disease speaks for itself. Branches and shoots of bushes dry out, cracks appear on the bark, between which black dots are clearly visible - pathogens.

As already mentioned, a variety of gooseberry spotting is also striking. Diseases of this type can belong to one of five types of pathogens:

1. The spotting is black, or alternarious - on the leaves of the bushes appear gray-black spots with a velvety bloom of olive color relatively large in size.

2. Brown spotting - the appearance of brown spots on the leaves with a small black coating.

3. Ascochitic spotting - spots of light gray or white color, around each of which there is a brown border, rounded, sometimes with black dotted pycnids.

4. Spotting white (septoria) - the appearance on the foliage of shrubs of small angular or rounded spots of brown color, around which there is a red-brown border. Over time, these spots become lighter, but the border remains all the same bright.

5. Anthracnose spotting - may appear not only on foliage, but also on branches and petioles. Represents small indented rounded spots of dark brown color.

It should highlight some more points regarding the spotting, which affects gooseberries. Diseases of this kind have characteristic features: spots, sporulation, and pads. All of them are located on the top of the leaves. However, if light spots are visible from above, and orange sporulation pads are below, then this is rust. And it spreads quite interestingly.

Other diseases

If sedge grows near bushes, gobble rust may appear on the gooseberry rust, if Siberian cedar or Weimutov pine, then columnar rust. Thanks to this neighborhood, the pathogen of the ailment has the opportunity to winter in sedge or pine, and in the spring to infect young gooseberry leaves.

Sometimes on a gooseberry you can see a thin film of black, this is nothing more than a disease called black. Another ailment is also known - the sphere library, also called powdery mildew. It is a gooseberry plaque. If the plant is severely affected by this disease, then on young shoots in the upper part, drying out occurs, but at the same time, the pathogen overwinters.

All the diseases that were listed above belong to the mushroom category, but viral diseases also occur in shrubs. These include bordering the veins. The plant in the first and second order of veins appears pale yellow border. Plus, chlorosis occurs on the leaves, after which they quickly lose their shape and become wrinkled.

There are not so many drugs used to combat various gooseberry diseases. This is copper sulfate, which helps to get rid of septoria and other types of spotting, cumulus rescues from powdery mildew, anthracnose and ascochitosis, as well as the Bordeaux mixture - from rust, septoria and anthracnose.

Some gardeners are trying to use drugs such as Topaz and Fundazol to combat gooseberry diseases. This decision is incorrect, since these funds can only be used to treat blackcurrant. However, if the whole gooseberry nursery is located on the site, then the โ€œFundazolโ€ remedy is possible in order to get rid of vertically withered gooseberry bushes.
