- An important selection criterion is age. Serving in the US Army is possible for candidates aged 17 to 42 years. Minor applicants must have written (notarized) parental permission.
- A potential soldier must have a school graduation certificate.

US Army Service: What Check Do I Need To Pass?

In addition, each soldier must pass ASVAB (a special test with which the level of knowledge and erudition is checked). This is a written assignment of 200 questions. The passing score is not too high, but the number of correct answers determines in which particular unit the candidate can serve.
