Foamiran Hydrangea: Flower Mastering Class

Flowers made of foamiran, or plastic suede, have one important feature: when wrinkled, they quickly restore their original shape. That is why products made of this material are often used to create hair bands, brooches and other accessories that can simply be removed and put in a handbag without worrying that the accessory will lose its attractive appearance. Plastic suede buds made by experienced craftsmen look very natural and often indistinguishable from real ones. Learn how to make hydrangea from foamiran with your own hands, from a master class on creating this flower.

Workshop on creating hydrangea from foamiran

At the first stage, we mark the basis for the petals. To do this, take a sheet of plastic suede of pink or blue color and mark it with a toothpick into 2 x 2 cm squares, after which we cut the blanks. Then, using a pin, mark the center of each petal. With nail scissors we make the same cuts in the middle from all sides, not reaching about 2 mm to the center. We received the item for one flower.

We continue the master class “Hydrangea from foamiran”. Now you need to make each petal more natural, rounding off the edges and toning the middle with green chalk pastels on both sides. It is not necessary to make all the flowers perfectly even - so they will look more natural. You can cut only the edges or make the edge wavy using curly scissors for work. There are no restrictions for your imagination, you can safely experiment by creating flowers of various shapes.

The next step in our workshop “Hydrangea from foamiran” is the preparation of the iron. We heat it to such a temperature so that the fingers can safely touch the sole. Now we make veins on flowers: we heat the petals and apply them to the mold four times, each leaf separately, to print the picture. We hold three petals with your hand so that they do not heat up, and the fourth is applied to the mold. The edges of the flowers are covered with pink pastel twice. The second time we color after heating on the iron, then the layer will lie more evenly, and the edge of the leaf will become more rigid.

Stamens for hydrangea from foamiran: do it yourself

It is necessary to pierce the middle of each bud and place a stamen in it, and then fix it on the back of the flower with glue and a brush. It is more convenient to use ready-made ones - this saves time on creating a flower, but stamens can be made in another way using plastic suede. To do this, cut a small strip of material 2-5 mm long, cut a piece of this size so that it is convenient to work with it. In the middle we put a drop of glue and apply a wire, and bend the foamiran with grindings. Cut off the excess and scroll the workpiece between the fingers, forming a stamen.

We will supplement the hydrangea master class from foamiran with another option for creating middles: using foam balls and foam rubber glue. Balls melt from ordinary glue. Acrylic will be required to stain the stamens. Glue the blanks to the wire, then mix the paints until a petal shade matches the petals, dip the top of the stamen into it or paint it with a brush. To connect the flower with the center, you also need using glue for foam rubber.

Product assembly

A new stage in the master class “Hydrangea from foamiran” begins with the assembly of individual flowers in inflorescences of 5-7 pieces. We connect them into a bouquet using green floral ribbon and wire. It's time to go foliage. Cut from blank plastic olive-colored suede blanks for two leaves. On the edges of each sheet we apply notches. It remains to heat them on the iron and give shape, pressing to the mold and curving the edges. We glue the floristic wire to the reverse side and collect the hydrangea inflorescence completely, fixing the flower bouquets with a floral ribbon. Done! We created hydrangea from foamiran with our own hands.
