Future empress
On the island of Martinique at the end of June 1763 in the family of an ordinary planter Joseph Gaspard de Tache, the girl Marie Joseph Rose was born. Everyone called her Josephine. When the future empress of France turned sixteen, she was married. In husbands she got the Viscount Alexander de Beauharnais. The couple moved to Paris, where she soon had children. Having begun to live a secular life, the widow de Beauharnais was actually dependent on her lovers, since she did not have her own livelihood. One of them, Paul Barras, deciding to get rid of his mistress, kept Josephine acquainted with a young nondescript officer Napoleon Bonaparte. The latter was poor, six years younger than Marie Rosa, but an unknown force drew them to each other. Accepting an invitation to dinner from the beautiful Creole and spending an evening with her, Bonaparte was fascinated by her for the rest of his life. They became lovers, and then spouses, having changed their age on paper. In early March 1796, a wedding took place, and Napoleon and Josephine became husband and wife before God. Bonaparte gave her lover a sapphire ring. Inside the ring was an engraving: "This is fate."
And soon, fate made Josephine the Empress, and Bonaparte the Emperor. The great commander, confidently capturing the whole world and gaining one victory after another, from each campaign sent his beloved wife tender and passionate letters full of revelations and confessions.
Broken hopes
But time passed, Napoleon dreamed of heirs, and Josephine could not get pregnant. In addition, rumors about the changes in the temperamental creole, which remained for a long time alone, were confirmed. And then Bonaparte decides to enter into a new marriage with the Princess of Austria Maria Louise in order to preserve the dynasty and extend her family. In 1809, Josephine and Napoleon divorced.
Divorce
Josephine retained the title of Empress at the insistence of Bonaparte. She receives the Champs Elysees, Navarre Castle, Malmaison and three million a year. Coats of arms, escorts, guards and all the attributes of the reigning person were left to her.
For the remaining five years of her life, the ex-spouse is engaged in collecting works of art, as well as growing various exotic plants.
Napoleon and Josephine: a love story
After the divorce, Napoleon and Josephine maintain a relationship. The emperor continues to write her gentle letters that are full of love and warmth. New marriage, the appearance of the long-awaited son did not bring Bonaparte happiness. After the defeat at Waterloo, the emperor goes to exile on the island of St. Helena.
