Soft roofing is one of the most popular types of roof protection against adverse environmental factors. There are several varieties of it, and therefore several styling technologies. We will talk about how installation of a soft roof is done in a particular case later in the article. This material can be classified into three main varieties.
Rolled soft roof
Fastens by means of bituminous mastic. As an example of this type of coating, you can give a regular roofing material. The advantages of this type of coating include primarily low weight and ease of installation. The disadvantages are a large number of joints.
Soft tile
This is the same roofing material, but cut into pieces with petals imitating a real tile. Possessing all the advantages and disadvantages of a conventional roofing material, but it differs in a beautiful appearance, as it can be painted in any color with an imitation of shadow from real tiles.
Soft surfaced roof
Surfaced roofing is also sold in rolls, but is fastened by melting mastic already applied to the material when heated with a gas burner. The advantages of this type of soft roof include light weight, strength and elasticity, as well as resistance to UV rays and significant temperature fluctuations. Installation of a soft roof (a photo of the process can be found on the page below) is somewhat more complicated than gluing roofing felt. This can be attributed to some of the disadvantages of the material.
Sprayed and sprayed
Soft and sprayed soft roof - a liquid waterproof substance, which, when applied to the roof, forms a thick flexible protective layer. The undoubted advantage of this kind of soft roof is elasticity and strength. However, due to the need to use expensive equipment, such roofs are more often arranged on the roofs of industrial facilities, as well as multi-unit city buildings.
Installation of a rolled roof
First, consider how to install a soft roof roll variety. Experts recommend doing this work with an assistant. The ruberoid is pre-cut and the strip is left to mature until morning. This is necessary in order to facilitate their installation on the roof. The lathing under any soft roofing material should be continuous. You can make it, for example, from plywood. The installation procedure of roofing material is as follows:
- The roof is smeared with bituminous mastic on gentle slopes - in strips, on steep - solid.
- A sheet of roofing material is tightly pressed and smoothed to the missed area (like wallpaper).
- They are lifted and additionally smeared to a depth of about 15 cm of the edge of the sheet.
- The next strip is pasted.
Thus, a sufficiently reliable soft roof is obtained. Installation instructions for this variety will be incomplete if you do not add that one layer of roofing material from leaks will not save. The fact is that this material is very weak at break and easily damaged. The number of layers depends on the angle of inclination of the roof slopes. For example, on a gently shelving roof (at 15 ° ), four of them are used. Than lay slopes, the more there should be an overlap between the sheets in the horizontal direction. For a slope of 15 degrees, it should be at least 12 cm. Two types of roofing material are produced - without sprinkling and with sprinkling. The first type is used for gluing intermediate layers, the second - the upper last.
After the installation of the roof from the soft roof will be made, conduct a small test on the strength of fastening. To do this, they simply try to tear off the material from the crate somewhere in the corner. If he holds on tightly, it means that everything is done correctly.
Installation of soft tiles
Now let's see how the tiled soft roof is mounted . The installation technology in this case is as follows:
- Previously, the roof is covered with a special waterproofing membrane that comes complete with tiles. They also attach it to the roofing nails in stripes in the horizontal direction. At the same time, the top of each sheet is fixed with roofing nails in increments of 40 cm along the upper edge and 10 cm on the bottom.
- After the entire roof is covered, a strip of the same material in the vertical direction covers the valleys. It also attaches to roofing nails in increments of 20 cm on both sides.
- At the next stage, installation of cornice and end plates made of metal, which are also usually supplied as a set, is started. They are made of not too thick material and can be fixed on the same nails. Fixation is made in increments of 10 cm "snake".
- Then a rug carpet is laid. This element always has the same color as the roofing soft tile itself. Fix it on top of the waterproofing strip on the nails in increments of 10 cm.
- Installation of a soft roof is continued by installation of a cornice tape. It is made of the same material as the rug. They fix it on nails over the eaves strip with an indent from the edge by two centimeters. Preliminarily remove the protective film from the wrong side.
- The next step is the actual installation of a soft roof - tiles. Use strips with petals immediately from several packages (4-6). This is necessary to align the color. A protective film is removed from each strip and pressed with an adhesive layer to the roof surface.
- Next, an additional fixation is carried out with roofing nails, one above each cut and at the same level along the edges.
- Each next row is mounted so that the petals of the tiles are located on the same level as the cutouts of the strips of the previous row.
- Installation of tiles begins from the middle of the slope, moving towards the edges. At the ends, the excess part is cut off and the edge is glued to the waterproofing carpet with bituminous mastic.
- In the same way, tiles are glued to the valley carpet, cutting them through a piece of plywood and leaving an uncovered part of the carpet 15 cm on both sides of the axis of the valley.
Installation of the built-up roof
Surfacing roofs are also available in rolls. Its difference from roofing material is that bitumen mastic is already applied to the underside of the strips. Most often, glass isol is used to cover roofs. Installation of a soft roof of this type is usually performed by three people. This operation consists of the following steps:
- The crate is evenly primed with a layer of bitumen diluted with gasoline.
- Laying sheets vertically from top to bottom. First, the uppermost edge of the ridge strip is glued. It is heated with a burner and pressed close to the crate.
- Then the roll is rolled up again (bitumen layer out).
- One man hooks him, gradually rolling out.
- The second person, as they roll out, heats the upper bitumen layer with a burner. The latter begins to melt and forms a liquid adhesive roller between the roof surface and the roll.
- Next, proceed to gluing the next. The overlap between adjacent should be 15 cm.
Thus paste over the entire roof. As with any other soft roofing material, protection will only be effective when several layers are glued. In the intermediate surfaced material can be located across the roof. This is how the tiled soft roof is attached. Technology, as you can see, is not particularly complicated.
Types of sprayed roofing material
In this case, as a waterproofing coating, a mixture is usually used, which hardens in air and forms a strong protective film of different thicknesses. Only three of its varieties are produced:
- One component. It is sprayed on the surface using high pressure equipment.
- Two-component. During the application, the polymer-bitumen composition and the hardener are mixed. Under pressure, it is supplied to the spray gun and applied with a layer of the required thickness.
- Bitumen-polymer composition. It is applied to the surface with a spatula or roller. In private housing construction, this variety is used most often, since it does not require the use of expensive equipment.
How to apply a bitumen-polymer composition to the roof
Next, we will examine how exactly a bituminous soft roof is mounted. Installation instructions:
- The old coating is removed from the roof.
- The surface is cleaned of dirt.
- Brush smears the primer layer, necessary to increase the adhesive properties of the surface.
- The roof is smeared with bitumen-polymer mastic also using a brush or roller.
In order to make the protective layer as reliable as possible, the roof is coated with several layers. The topmost one usually wakes up for greater reliability with coarse sifted sand.
How much does a soft roof protection cost
Thus, we have figured out how a soft roof is fastened. The installation technology of this material is elementary, and therefore the installation can easily be done independently. Next, let's figure out how much such protection for the roof can cost. The price depends primarily on the type of material used, as well as, of course, the amount of sprayed or glued layers. However, in general, such roofs are somewhat cheaper than others made of other materials.
For example, a ruberoid roll of 15 meters costs about 200 rubles (for 2014). The width of the standard sample is one meter. Consequently, 1 m 2 costs about 13 rubles. Accordingly, a square meter of a roof from its three layers is 40 rubles (excluding mastic). A square meter of glass isol costs about 30-50 rubles. Consequently, for 1 m 2 in three layers you will have to pay 100-150 rubles. Bitumen-based polymer mastic costs about 900 rubles per 10 kg. Its consumption per 1 m 2 - 1 kg. That is, one square meter in one layer will cost 90 rubles.
These are the most budget options. The cost of installing a soft roof may be higher.
