A metal corner is one of the most common types of profiles

Over the past decades, the construction industry has received particularly wide development, and this is due primarily to the fact that the country has reoriented the construction industry as a whole. It’s not a secret for anyone that nowadays multi-storey model houses are being built less and less often, as it once happened with the Khrushchevs, and even earlier with the Stalin. Despite this, in construction from that time to this day there are materials that, thanks to their excellent thermal and physical properties, as well as properties, become the most popular in most buildings and structures being erected.

Steel and products from it

One of these materials is steel, which, despite its relatively light weight (average density = 7860 kg / cubic meter), has all the necessary characteristics for capital construction. This article will focus on such a variety of steel products as rolled steel profiles. In particular, a metal corner will be considered

So what is it?

A metal corner is one of the types of rolling profiles. It is widely used in construction. Externally, the metal corner is a L-shaped beam, which can be made of various types of steel.

Corner classification

This type of profiles has its own characteristics, thanks to which they have their own classification. For example, according to the variety of cross-sections of the corners, they can be divided into 2 types: equal and unequal. As the name implies, at an equal-shelf corner, the shelves are equal in size, but the metal corners of unequal shelf have different sizes. The width of the corners' shelves can range from 20 to 200 millimeters, and the length, in turn, varies from 4 to 12 meters.

In the photo below you can see an equal-angle metal corner. Its construction is as simple as possible.

And here is an unequal metal corner:

According to the manufacturing method, these elements are divided into the following:

  • Hot-rolled (a process in which the rolling of a finished product occurs by means of rotating shafts, as a result of which the necessary shape is given to it). Hot-rolled corners are most popular, especially when it comes to the construction of multi-storey monolithic structures (serve as the basis for rigid reinforcement), residential buildings and large building structures.
  • Bent (this type of view is obtained through the use of a special roll forming machine). Such corners are not used as part of the supporting structure, but only in cases where there is no need for resistance to increased loads, as well as in a high level of strength and reliability.

To increase strength and resistance to external influences, the metal corner may be subject to galvanizing.

Conclusion

The modern market offers all potential customers a metal corner, the dimensions of which depend on the grade of steel that was used in its manufacture. As a rule, the data are given in the corresponding table (depending on the linear size of the corner - data on its mass, density and footage).
