The most famous among readers of Terry Pratchett's work is “The Flat World” - a cycle of satirical fantasy. The series consists of more than 40 novels, several short stories, accompanying maps and guidebooks, as well as books on the science of this world.
Many different characters live in the universe of this cycle: Great A`Tuin, Bel-Shamgarot, Albert, Death, Time and others. Pratchett's favorite hero is Samuel Vimes.
Biography
Vimes was born on Kokbul Street, in the Shadows, in one of the poorest areas of Ankh Morpork.
Samuel Vimes was raised by his mother - he never knew his father. All that is known is that his name was Thomas. As a child, Sam often heard from his mother that his father died after falling under the wheels of a cart. Most likely, this was not true, and Samuel Vimes's father was a guard, a descendant of the guard commander, whose name was Vimes Not-Suffering Injustice. It was from his ancestor that Sam inherited hostility towards monarchs and aristocrats, as Commander Vimes was the one who beheaded King Ankh-Morpork.
Since Vimes was born in a poor neighborhood, his childhood cannot be called prosperous. As a teenager, he was a member of a street gang called Roaring Guys.
At the age of about 20, Samuel Vimes volunteered to serve in the Guard. From royal sergeant John Keel, under whose command the protagonist served, he adopted cynicism and the pursuit of justice.
The fictional character Samuel Vimes first appears in Sentinel! Guard! ” Her events take place 25 years after the beginning of his service. For the first time, readers see him in the Flat World series. At that time, Samuel had the rank of captain of the Night Watch.

In the illustration created by Paul Kidby for this game, Vimes is depicted as a middle-aged brunette man. His hair, on which gray hair is slightly visible, is cut short enough - probably for the convenience of wearing a helmet. Black eyebrows set low and give the face a harsh expression.
Vimes has neither a beard nor a mustache, however, stubble can be seen on his face. He has a cigarette in his mouth, from which we can conclude that Samuel is a smoker.
Family ties
At the end of the novel “To arms! To arms! ” Vimes married Lady Sybil the Lamb. Wimes's wife is a kind and courageous woman. He owns 37 swamp dragons, before her marriage she was engaged in their breeding. Lady Sybil protects her pets and in every way protects - she even organized a special shelter for sick dragons.
In The Fifth Elephant, Sibylla tells her husband about her pregnancy. After some time, the couple had a son, who was named after his father. For both Sam and Sibylla, this was the first child.
