The capital of Latvia: a city with woman’s eyelashes and a man’s heart

Riga is an amazing fairytale city, with its charm able to impress any traveler. It miraculously combines all the styles of Western European architecture: from the harsh and sublime Middle Ages to the frivolous Art Nouveau. And each building has its own exciting story, which is a pleasure to listen to.

The capital of Latvia is a city where the older generation sets off in the hope of finding their youth, first love and first light and therefore the most important happiness in life. Young people strive here so that after years, having already become the older generation, to return to youth again. Here is such a cycle.

Each city, and even more so as old and beautiful as Riga, has its own character and special unique atmosphere. He breathes, laughs and lives like a huge bizarre person. To become a confidant who is not in danger of revealing secrets, a friend of this giant, you need to get to know him correctly. Someone needs a guide for this, someone needs a guide. The capital of Latvia submits only to those who with an open heart, forgetting about all the recommendations, conventions and generally accepted tourist routes, go in search of adventure along the unknown paths of this eastern Hamburg and little Paris all rolled into one.

The stone and surprisingly colorful streets of Riga are its arteries, the blood of which is the stunning sounds of music, coming from all sides. Street troubadours, performing works of different styles and trends, give the city a special charm and charm. In general, the capital of Latvia is a musical place. What is one organ installed in the Dome Cathedral. Huge, five-story building tall and with 7 thousand pipes, he is able to gently hum hum with angelic and human voices, echo the rustle of leaves and bring out harmonious sea melodies.

And the Dome Cathedral itself is admirable. Its construction lasted for more than a century - that is probably why the imposing building acquired such a magnificent and wise look: the stained glass windows with the image of biblical paintings of amazing beauty, sculptures belonging to the hand of the greatest masters. And in the most secluded corner lurks a mouse cast from metal - a mute reproach of repairmen and finishers of the 1905 model. Then, at the beginning of the last century, the cathedral did not have enough money to pay for repair work, and the decoration masters had no choice but to complain with a sad grin: poor, like church mice, and put this eternal rodent on one of the forged fences of the cathedral.

The capital of Latvia does not like hurry. In addition to the centenary construction of the Dome Cathedral, Riga can always boast a couple more unfinished buildings. There is an ancient legend about this. From time to time, a huge monster emerges from the Daugava River and asks in a thunderous voice: is Riga ready? This terrible creature for unknown reasons wants to devour the main city of the country. That's just for the monster esthete completeness of the capital is fundamentally important. Therefore, residents (all as one business men or beautiful women) answer: no, not yet ready, still under construction! It remains only to wish Latvia talented, as before, architects and slow builders who will not allow Riga to end its life in the jaws of an unpleasant monster.

The country of Latvia cannot boast a vast area and a multimillion population. But here there are small pieces from around the world, including the literary and cinematic: Baker Street, on which is the modest bachelor’s apartment of the main detective of all time, the ingloriously failed conspiratorial appearance on Blumenstrasse and a lot of streets and houses.

Anyway, with the original thinking of the Latvians everything is in order. Well, where else do you see an exhibition of contemporary art, comfortably settled in the fish pavilion of the Central Market or a weather vane - a black cat, mockingly looking from the roof of an old house? There is also Hogwarts, a children's camp in Latvia, where young wizards study with all diligence. Just do not count. Yes, this is not required - after all, Latvia has long been waiting for you to visit.
