For this, many special programs were created, including computer games. Their main difference is genres, which can be counted quite a lot. Each of them has its own distinctive features.
There is a rather large group of computer games in which the player controls a character that he has previously worked out or created by him. In general, they can be called role-playing. Among them, such genres as RPG, MMORPG, quests, arcade and three-dimensional shooters, strategies and action games are distinguished. The main similarity of these genres is that each game has its own developed world, characters, story and plot. In the process of passing the player meets many characters and visits various places. In the terminology of these genres you can find such a word as location. This plays a role in many games, so it’s worth explaining what it is.

The location is a separate part of the game world, which has its own characteristics - buildings, NPCs, relief and nature. It allows the player to perform certain actions that are performed to complete the plot, extra-plot tasks or just for fun. It can never be separate or isolated (with the rare exception of secret or bonus ones), because a location is an integral part of the game world. Depending on the significance of the plot, the location may have such parts as cities, settlements, be a waterless desert or a dense and flowering forest. In a word, both the real world and the game are diverse, and locations bring a lot of variety.
Creating locations in the game
Since the location is a three-dimensional space that must live a certain life and somehow react to the actions of the characters, a number of programs are used to create it. These are not only generators of textures and characters, they are also scripts, simulators of weather conditions, life and natural processes, and, of course, processes and operations whose task is to create interactivity and interoperability.

Their number depends on how powerful equipment will be used to create the game, as well as on graphic requirements and plot. Very indicative in this regard is one of the world's largest MMORPGs - World of Warcraft, which has a large and developed world with 5 continents, each of which has up to 20 locations. In a slightly modified form, the locations are present in other games that do not have such emphasis on the plot or story. These are logic games, various strategies, casual and indie projects. In them, the location may be present in the form of a playing field, background, or be the place where actions are unfolding at the moment.

As the creators of the game successfully developed the locations, one can recall such a legendary game as STALKER. Its world, based on rethinking the Chernobyl accident, amazes with its detailed study of Soviet life and life familiar to many adults. Another game that strikes with the beauty and magnificence of places is Skyrim. As in a universe that already has several parts, the ramified mythology of the world and the plot oblige the places in which the saga unfolds to be beautiful, reflect the flavor of an ethnic area and at the same time give the player the opportunity to roam freely around the world. I must say that in the game "Skyrim" locations successfully cope with this task, and in many ways this is why it leaves a pleasant impression.
