Novosibirsk, the Glory Monument - two inseparable concepts for Siberians. Designing a memorial ensemble entitled "The Feat of Siberians in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." started shortly after the victory.
In the autumn of November 1967, the memorial complex opened. The construction was truly monumental, the ensemble was erected as soon as possible - only a year and eight months! Monument of Glory (Novosibirsk): history
The construction of the memorial began at the end of the boulevard, which at that time was already about 50 years old. It has a rectangular shape, the Square of Celebrations is located here, on the east side it is closed by five pylons of ten meters height. It is no coincidence that the designers chose so many columns. Each tower is a year of terrible war. In general, architects sought to fill the ensemble with symbolism. Each element of the memorial has a deep meaning. Sculptors involved both sides of the pylons. On one of them scenes of military operations are depicted and lines about the war are engraved, on the other lists of the lost Siberian soldiers are attached. A total of 30,266 names of the killed fighters. The designers tried and set up four urns on the elevation between the pylons, with the earth brought from the places of bloody battles.
Behind the columns there is a no less monumental statue - the image of a grieving mother, and in front of her is the grave of an unknown soldier and a cup with the Eternal Flame, which was lit from a metallurgical furnace from the V.P. Chkalov factory, which worked even during the battles.
The Garden of Glory along the perimeter is surrounded by greenery from sheared bushes and slender birches. If you walk along the boulevard, then they obscure the alley and memorial from city noise and fuss. During the walk you will plunge into silence and silence. So sad and majestic is this place of sorrow.
Who created the Memorial of Glory
Before you begin to describe the story of the creation of the fifty-year-old monument, you need to talk about the people who designed and built it. A group of talented Siberians worked on it.
The ensemble was developed by the monumental artist A.S. Chernobrovtsev, architects M.M. Pirogov and B.A. Zakharov worked, and created a sculpture of the mourning mother B. L. Ermishin.
Century construction in the Siberian capital
The beautiful Glory Monument (Novosibirsk) was created. The story of his appearance is unique. In the cold autumn of 1967, a memorial to the fallen soldiers was opened, but city architects continued to supplement the ensemble with various compositions. So, in 1970, on Victory Day, a guard of honor was established, students continue to serve today.
The next important point in the history of the construction of the complex is 1985, the fortieth anniversary of the victory over the Nazis. 400 meters from the ensemble opened the Alley of Arms. The exhibits are military equipment, models of which participated in the Great Patriotic War. You will see the legendary Katyusha, the no less famous T-34 tank, the Yak-9 aircraft and much more.
In 2000, installers erected an 18-meter obelisk sword called "The Unity of the Front and the Rear", which was designed by the same Alexander Chernobrovtsev.
Participants in the Afghan and Chechen war did not stand aside. They financed the construction of a small chapel of St. George the Victorious in 2002.
In 2005, on the eve of Victory Day, a monument was erected to “Heroes and Full Knights of the Order of Glory”. The names of 270 Siberian heroes are engraved on the stella.
Further, the authorities of the city of Novosibirsk supplemented the Glory Monument with various decorative compositions. The corners of the square have small playgrounds, horizontal bars and slides. Among the growing trees you will also find miniature wooden sculptures of animals.
The city of Novosibirsk is very clean and well-maintained. The Glory Monument and its park zone is the visiting card of the metropolis. Today, the complex is surrounded by schools, residential buildings, the Metallist cinema, the Leninsky district administration building, the buildings of the city hospital No. 34, as well as the stadium.
In 2009, the memorial was equipped with CCTV cameras. Thanks to this, it was possible to find out who in December 2014 defiled combat vehicles in the alley. A gang of juvenile vandals led by a 20-year-old guy painted Katyushu in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Violators were caught and punished.
Pylons are illuminated by powerful spotlights, which in the evening gives even more grandeur and monumentality.

One way or another, but even Siberia, far from the center of Russia, took part in the five-year war. Siberians and evacuated Leningraders worked in factories, producing guns and military equipment. Many pensioners in Novosibirsk are labor veterans.
More than 150 thousand inhabitants of Novosibirsk went to the front. Grandfathers, fathers and sons left to fight. Many of them are still reported missing. Their feat cannot be overestimated. The names of the fallen were immortalized on five concrete ten-meter stella. It has already been said above that each pylon symbolizes one year of hostilities. On one side are scenes of battles. On the other side are lists of fallen Siberians - soldiers of the Red Army.
What do pylons represent?
Each stella has a name that corresponds to the depicted scene of the fighting.
The first column is the Call. It depicts a soldier with a rifle in his right hand.
The second double - “Labor test. Rear". The content of the pylon speaks of the order of the motherland to go to war, to protect their home and city. Also depicted are scenes of wires to the front, and in the center are the harsh and mournful faces of wives and mothers who hate the enemy. The right part depicts the life of Novosibirsk in the war years. Women in the fields and at the machines. As well as children raising military shells.
The third pylon is central. Architects depicted on it the years of the war (1941-1945).
The fourth stele is Victory, but the images on it evoke far from joyful emotions. You will see the flame of the Reichstag, Soviet tanks, the destroyed equipment of the enemy, the Red Army and nurse.
The fifth twin column is Mir. It shows a close-up of a child and a mother woman in a field full of wheat and bread. Above their head is a peaceful sky and a shining sun.
