How to quickly and easily make a poppy from satin ribbons: step-by-step instructions

Poppy from satin ribbons - a universal element. It is used for a variety of decorative purposes: decorating clothes, making accessories, used for decorating gift wraps, as well as for creating interior bouquets.

There are quite a few techniques that allow you to make bulk poppy from satin ribbon. The master class described below tells how you can get a beautiful flower, having available very inexpensive material and beads.

What fabric to choose

The most interesting and attractive flowers are obtained from satin-gloss fabric, but any other material can be used. Crafts from organza, simple and pleated chiffon or even tweed look good. However, it should be borne in mind that it is more difficult to work with transparent fabrics : small parts crumble literally in your hands. This happens because the weaving of their threads is very loose.

As for tweed and other non-charged fabrics, the flowers from them are rather peculiar and specific. In addition, if the material contains natural fibers, they will not melt upon contact with fire. This means that the petals will have to be processed in a different way. Alternatively, you can soak them with a solution of starch, sugar or gelatin, PVA glue. Naturally, cutting out details from such a fabric should be extremely careful, because any flaws will be noticeable.

What should be prepared for work

If you decide to make a poppy from satin ribbons, then ribbons with a width of at least five centimeters are best.

You should also take care of the availability of all tools and auxiliary materials:

  1. Sharp scissors.
  2. Tweezers.
  3. Candle and matches.
  4. Ruler or tape measure.
  5. Thick paper.
  6. A needle with a thread or a glue gun (better last).
  7. Black beads (preferably glass, since plastic can visually reduce the cost of the product).
  8. The basis for attaching the poppy (stalk, hairpin, hoop or something else).

Satin ribbon poppy: master class. Make the petals

First of all, cut out the entire set of petals (15 pieces), from which the flower will then be collected. To do this, you need a pattern, or rather, several templates of different sizes.

In the photo below, a variant of how the poppies can look like is offered, as well as their approximate sizes.

The finished template is applied to the tape from the wrong side and outlined with chalk or remnant with a sharp edge.

Important: in the process of cutting parts, you should be careful, because the tape is very soft and slides under your fingers. It is necessary to ensure that the parts have a given shape. A poppy made of satin ribbons will be all the more attractive the more accurately its petals look.

Fire processing

To prevent shedding of the edges, each petal should be heat treated. Almost all flowers are made of ribbons this way; poppies are no exception. At this point, use tweezers or narrow pliers.

The nuance is that the fabric should not be set on fire, only brought to the fire and wait until the edge melts a little. Only artificial materials behave this way; natural fabrics begin to smolder and burn. It is already ugly and completely unaesthetic.

When the tape is melted, it curls up a bit, which is very much in the hands of the craftsmen. This technique allows you to give the petals a rather naturalistic look.

Do not get upset if some element does not work out neat, it can be easily replaced with a new one.

Picking a flower

For assembly, it is easiest to use a glue gun and silicone glue. If the craftswoman does not have this good, the elements can simply be sewn.

The poppy of satin ribbons consists of three tiers, each of which contains five petals of the same size. The lower layer will be composed of the largest parts, the second - from the middle, the last will form small petals. Gluing or stitching the parts, they are overlapped.

The illustration above shows perfectly how to proceed.

Shutdown

At the last stage, you should draw up the middle of the poppy. To do this, put a large drop of hot silicone glue in its center and quickly place glass beads in it in the desired order.

To beads held tight, each of them should lie in its own recess of glue. But at the same time there should not be too much silicone, otherwise the poppy from the tape with your own hands will have an untidy look.

That's all, it remains only to attach the finished flower to the selected base. As a rule, a fragment of a satin ribbon is used for this. The edges are treated with a candle, then a hairpin or hoop is placed between this part and the wrong side of the poppy and fixed with glue.

If the flower is planned to be used in a bouquet, the base is fixed before the beads are glued. The stem is decorated with corrugated paper or thread, and then push the end through all layers to the center. Here they make a flat loop and fix everything with glue. Later decorated with beads.
