State Museum of Local Lore "Narva Outpost"

The Narva Zastava Museum received the status of the State Museum of Local Lore in 1990. The complex consists of two buildings, each of which is an architectural monument of the XVII-XIX centuries.

Description

The State Museum of Local Lore “Narva Zastava” was founded on the basis of the National Museum in 1990. Exhibition halls are located in two buildings, united by a common goal - the historical and local history development of the Kirovsky district of St. Petersburg. The expositions of the complex occupy about 200 m 2 of space.

The main exhibition halls and storage facilities are located in a building dating back to the late 19th century, formerly known as the Hecht House. Before the revolution, offices, warehouses were located in it, and in 1917 the 6th congress of the RSDLP (b) took place.

In 2007, the Narva Zastava Museum was replenished with a branch located in the right wing of the house that once belonged to Princess Ekaterina Dashkova. The building was built in the 18th century along the Peterhof Road and was the heart of the Kiryanovo country estate.

The main topics of museum expositions are the history of the Narva outpost, the Peterhof road, the life and work of Princess Dashkova, the history and development of the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, the history of entrepreneurship of the Narva suburb of St. Petersburg until 1917 and from revolution to modern times. Much attention is paid to the Great Patriotic War, the blockade of Leningrad, the defense of the city in the Kirov region, where the front line passed.

Funds

The Narva Zastava Museum is constantly replenishing funds due to the active work of researchers. Today, the collection contains more than 33 thousand genuine items, the most notable are numismatics, photos and videos, objects and personal belongings of ordinary and famous personalities.

The most ancient artifacts illustrate the life and life of the ancient Vikings, who once settled on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. The chronology of historical exhibits begins in the 10th century. The clothing fund acquaints tourists with models of some famous buildings and structures, including the Katalnaya Gorka in Oranienbaum, the Ulyanka estate and others. Also in this fund are ball gowns, furniture of the 18th-20th centuries, household items and much more.

Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the merchant A.M. Ushakov - benefactor of the Narva suburb. Thanks to his activities, a school for children was built in the 19th century, an Orthodox church, a hospital for peasants and workers appeared.

The Great Patriotic War for St. Petersburg is an event filled with special tragedy. In the museum, stands dedicated to this period are represented by the reconstructed room of the Leningrad apartment. It contains genuine pieces of furniture and things that reflect the life of the blockade.

The Narva Zastava Museum is proud of its collection of documents and photographs dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. They reflect the life, development and changes of the Kirov region - from the suburban outskirts to the industrial center of the city. Children and adults are interested in looking at perfectly preserved copies of the technology of past years. The Underwood typewriter, the Luch cinema projector, the Soviet-era Felix arithmometer will be a revelation for some, and will serve as an impetus for others.

In memory of the princess

Museum “Narva Outpost” (Stachek, 45) carefully preserves the memory and life story of an outstanding personality - Princess Ekaterina Romanovna Dashkova. Several halls of the museum branch are dedicated to its activities. Today, the museum has at its disposal the right wing of the palace, in its left part is the Wedding Palace of the Kirov District.

The exposition tells the pre-Petrine history of these lands, examines the origin of the Peterhof tract. The collection includes exhibits from archaeological expeditions to Staraya Ladoga and Novgorod.

A large amount of information is enclosed in stands dedicated to the history of Yekaterinhof after the royal court moved to it. The finds of the expedition of P.E. Sorokin on the site of the once beautiful Ekaterinhof Palace (destroyed in the 1920s) are especially honored by the public. The stands feature elements of painted stove tiles, pipes and other items related to the Petrine era.

In 2017, the Narva Zastava Museum received additional space, which now houses an extensive exhibition dedicated entirely to Princess E.R. Dashkova, the founder of two universities and a multifaceted personality.

In her country estate “Kiryanovo” she worked hard on the first academic dictionary of the Russian language for the Russian Academy of Sciences, composed poems and musical works, held meetings and wrote treatises. Unfortunately, no genuine objects remained in the palace. The reconstruction of the interior is filled with furniture from Catherine’s time.

Some of the items arrived from the Academy of Sciences, the arrangement of which the princess was personally involved in; mirrors were provided by the museum of naval commander S.K. Greig (Oranienbaum). But there are also originals of Dashkova’s time, for example, lifetime issues of the magazine “Interlocutor of Russian Word Lovers”, which the princess edited and published.
