Since Barbie has a miniature body, it makes no sense to measure it with a centimeter tape. You can, of course, make measurements and do all the calculations in millimeters, but there is an easier way.

So, you need a baking foil, which wraps the figure and presses it to the body, and a marker, which draws all the shaped and curved lines directly on the foil: along the waist, through the center of the chest, along the shoulders and along the supposed armhole of the sleeves or above the chest and under mice, depending on the model, as well as along the side seams and in the center of the back.

When all the lines have been drawn, take the nail scissors and gently cut the foil into parts to get a pattern for the doll’s dress. When all the elements are cut out, they will only have to be transferred to the fabric, add allowances to the seams, cut out and assemble the product.

If you need a pattern of a magnificent dress for a doll, you need to wrap only the upper part of the body with foil to get the details of the bodice. A skirt is usually made of a strip of fabric with a length from the waist to the floor and a width depending on the number of assemblies.

Dress on a big baby doll

To sew the original dress on a bobblehead doll, you will need to take measurements from the toy. With a centimeter tailor’s tape measure the circumference of the neck, chest, waist and hips, as well as vertical measurements: the depth of the armhole, the length of the front and back to the waist, the length of the entire product and the growth of the baby doll. Dolls build a pattern for a dress in the same way as for children's clothes. A vertical line is drawn on a sheet of paper and further laid down on it are measurements. First, from the top, the length of the front to the waist is laid down along the line and to the right of the neck circumference and shoulder width. The end point of the shoulder is underestimated by half a centimeter and a curved armhole for the hand is drawn down. Next, from the tackle point to the right, half the corresponding measurement is carried out and the end point is connected to the bottom of the armhole, having received a lateral seam of the bodice. For the bottom of the dress, cut a strip of fabric and collect it with beautiful bow folds.

Parts should be assembled from horizontal seams, and after sewing on the shoulder and sewing on a skirt, decorative elements and a fastener. Velcro is usually used for fastening clothes for Barbie, but for large dolls zippers and buttons are suitable.

How to choose a fabric

For sewing, you can use old things or the remains of fabrics from sewing any products, but most craftswomen prefer to choose fabric in stores for their creations.

Decorating the top of the dress, you can use different textile flowers and sequin ribbons. When decorating the product, one simple rule should be remembered: if the fabric is in saturated colors or with sparkles, then there should be a minimal amount of decor. At the same time, if the fabric is plain, then you can use beads, and flowers, and rhinestones.
