Is there a chameleon paint for a car?

Sooner or later, every owner of an iron horse has a desire to make tuning for his car. Stickers and neon ribbons will not surprise anyone. But painting the car with chameleon paint will help stand out.

The principle of the paint

Coating a car with chameleon paint allows you to create an iridescent effect. The color of the surface will change with a change in the angle of view. A similar effect occurs due to the fact that the paint contains a special pigment (it is artificial) that causes the sun's rays to break. The iridescent effect is due to the presence of several such pigments in the chameleon paint. These particles add up to five levels:

  • aluminum, chrome form an opaque central layer;
  • a transparent layer on each side of the main;
  • outer translucent layers.

The simultaneous presence of these layers on the surface creates the so-called mirror effect. The overflow of color depends on the thickness of the coating, the larger it is, the more noticeable the chameleon effect will be.

Many people confuse this paint with the effect of mother of pearl. The latter option involves adding particles of mica or similar pigments to the enamel.

How to make a chameleon paint with your own hands?

As a rule, such paint is sold ready-made. But with a strong desire, a similar effect can be created independently. The principle is as follows:

  • first the primary color is applied (preferably white or black);
  • metallic effect paints are applied in layers;
  • Between each layer of paint a special transparent varnish must be applied.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the thickness of the coating based on the metal oxide affects which color (yellow, red, blue) will be further suppressed or reflected. Thanks to this, the human eye at different angles will pick up different shades of the spectrum of reflected sunlight.

Paint technology

You can apply the chameleon-paint on the surface of the car yourself. The whole process consists of three stages:

  • Primer application (toner). It is best to use a white or black backing for this purpose. This will achieve the maximum chameleon effect. The color of the substrate will be primary, and the applied pigment will break it.
  • Coating directly with a chameleon-paint for cars. For this, it is necessary to ensure the correct lighting (it is better to combine the operation of halogen and fluorescent lamps) and a temperature of 20 ยฐ C. The first layer must be applied with a spray at a distance of 40-50 cm from the surface to be treated, while the paint should be supplied with a pressure of 4 atm. The first layer is dried for no more than 3 minutes. Now you need to remove the dust with an antistatic cloth. After this, a second coat must be applied. The next two (there may be more) are applied from a distance of 30 cm and under a pressure of 3 atm. Their drying takes 5 minutes each.

  • Fixing color with transparent varnish (preferably in several layers). It can be applied after the paint has completely dried.

Having covered a car with a chameleon-paint, it is impossible to go unnoticed. There are no rules for surface care. In addition, with little experience, you can repaint your car in garage conditions.
