How to use a needle threader on modern sewing machines

Most modern sewing machines are equipped with this small device - an automatic thread threader. But many ignore it, preferring to thread the thread into the eye manually by the old fashioned way, although it is possible to master such a simple device without difficulty. The main thing is to discard the fear of past failed attempts.

Principle of operation

Sewing machine thread threader

So how to use a needle threader for sewing machines? Take a closer look and you will notice that it rests on a tiny hook-like mechanism. The needle threader grabs the thread and returns the loop back.

Raise the needle to its highest position. Once it is in the right position, you need to roll up a small loop by wrapping the thread around the knee-shaped holder on the needle-threading device. Press the lever for the needle threader needle at the same time. The hook holds the thread, and the lever lowers it and allows you to move forward.

After the device β€œmeets” the needle, direct the thread into the small recess that is on the hook so that the thread can be hooked. If you hold the end of the thread, then you will feel how it caught on the hook. Release the lever. The loop went through the eye of the needle. Now just pull the end of this loop. The thread went into the eye, the needle is threaded and ready to go! Now you know how to use the needle threader.

The needle threader does not work properly. What to do?

The needle and the needle threader hook should fit perfectly. If for some reason this does not happen, the system will not work properly. The most common causes are:

  1. If the needle is not installed correctly or is not fully raised, the automatic threading system will not work. Make sure the needle is securely and correctly installed. If it is not tightened enough, and the needle top is not fully fixed in the holder, the eye will be in the wrong position.
  2. Problems due to mismatch in needle and thread sizes. When using a thick thread with a small needle, either thread the needle manually or use a larger needle.

And if you bend the needle, replace it. Fortunately, you can easily solve this problem without a trip to the repair shop.
