There are many unique places in the world that deserve special attention. During an international vote in 2007 for seven wonders of the world, Russia did not get a single step on this list.
In this regard, at the initiative of the Izvestia newspaper and the Rossiya television channel, a competition was proposed with the help of which it would be possible to highlight the best places in our country, regardless of whether they were created by nature itself or are man-made. The competition was held in three stages. At the end of the first, only 49 objects remained in the list. The second round reduced this list to 14. The
popular vote lasted for a month and a half. Seven wonders of Russia were identified. These included Lake Baikal, Peterhof, Mamaev Kurgan, Elbrus, Valley of Geysers, St.
Basil's Cathedral and weathering pillars located in Komi.
One of the objects included in the list of “Seven Wonders of Russia” is Lake Baikal. This is the deepest and oldest lake in the world, existing on earth for more than 25 million years. About 22% of the world's fresh water reserves are concentrated here. Scientists calculated that all the people of the planet could live on these water reserves for 40 years, and if we take only Russia, then this water will be enough for more than 1000 years. But the greatness of this object is not in these figures, but in the beauty of these places. Throughout the year, wildlife lovers flock to these places to make an unforgettable trip.

No less attractive object, occupying a place in the list of “Seven Wonders of Russia”, is the Valley of Geysers located in Kamchatka. In order to see this beauty, you need to fly a helicopter over the tundra, hills and ridges. There is no other way to get to this place. Here, in a relatively small area, there are 200 thermal springs. There are 90 geysers with boiling water among them.
A very interesting object is Mamaev Kurgan, located in the Volgograd region. During the Patriotic War, it was a place where fierce battles took place, as a result of which thousands of soldiers died. It was in memory of these heroes that the architectural ensemble located on the top of the mound was erected. 200 granite steps were built from the foot of it. This amount was determined by the number of days of the battle.
The seven wonders of Russia include Peterhof, the most famous suburb of St. Petersburg, on its list. Its main feature is that it is built in the manner of Versailles. Palaces, graceful sculptures, alleys and greenhouses were located in a single complex. The most attractive structures are fountains, of which there are 176. Together with 4 cascades, they work without pumps.
A surprisingly beautiful building is St. Basil's Cathedral.
This is the most unusual Moscow church, built by Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century. It consists of a central church, which is surrounded by eight churches with colored domes in the form of onions. It contains many ancient icons. It will be interesting to see the preserved frescoes.
One of the 7 wonders of our country is the highest point in Russia - Elbrus, located on the border of the republics of Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria. This mountain has gained fame thanks to its glaciers, with the help of which mountain rivers feed, and to the mineral springs that lie at its foot.
Another object of this seven is Weathering Pillars, which are remnants of bizarre shapes crowning the top of Mount Man-Pupu-ner. The height of these pillars is from 30 to 42 meters. They were created over many millions of years under the influence of wind and water. Pillars used to be religious buildings of the Mansi people, who have built up numerous legends about them. According to one of them, these are petrified giants trying to destroy the Mansi people. The shaman, using his knowledge, turned them to stone.
