For ten years now, in our country, a national prize has been awarded to the best representatives of contemporary Russian art. Over the years, it has several dozen laureates and is recognized not only in the Russian Federation, but also abroad.
Prize History
In its current form, the Kandinsky Prize was created only in 2007.
However, this was the second reincarnation of the award.
The Kandinsky Prize was first established by Nina Kandinsky, the wife of Vasily Vasilyevich, a few years after the artist passed away. Then it lasted 15 years.
The Kandinsky Prize, founded by Shalva Petrovich Breus, carried several goals. But the basic rule was assigned easy reach and understandability for the participation of all artists.
The Kandinsky Prize is distinguished by the fact that masters have the opportunity to apply for participation on their own, without the mediation of museums and galleries.
The jury was planned exclusively internationally, which has been observed for a decade.
Today, the Kandinsky Prize seeks to develop contemporary Russian art. The main goal still remains finding new projects and young artists and attracting connoisseurs into the cultural life of the country.
A little about Kandinsky
Vasily Kandinsky rightfully earned the honor of giving the name of such a major award. A Russian artist, one of the founders of abstract art, is an inspiring example of a man who conquered his dream. At the insistence of his parents, having graduated from Moscow University, a successful young lawyer resigns as a professor and begins his career as an artist at the age of 30. He worked in Russia, Germany, France.
Vasily Vasilievich receives the greatest fame while living in Germany. During his creative life, Kandinsky visited Africa, traveled to Europe, organized and led several creative associations. Expositions devoted to his work are arranged everywhere to this day.
In what categories are awards awarded?
The winners of the Kandinsky Prize this year became both “jubilees”. During the tenth ceremony, awards were presented in three categories.
In 2012-2013, the prize was awarded only in the first two categories.
Previously, from 2007 to 2011, there were three of them, the same number has been from 2014.
Since the foundation of the award, the classic Project of the Year and Young Artist have been complemented by the Media Art. Project of the year. " Later, the latter category was replaced by a prize in the field of scientific works and publications.
The first prize is about 40 thousand euros. This is the largest financial award among all in the post-Soviet space.
It is interesting that in addition to a cash award, artists get the opportunity to take part in exhibitions throughout Russia and abroad, which contributes to the promotion of their own creativity.
How to become applicants
To get on the list of participants and try your hand at winning the award, first of all, you need to declare yourself in the organizing committee.
Then your application will go through all the steps of the vote. Experts united in the council and the panel of the international jury take part in the selection of tenders for all categories.
So, in the first stage, the council draws up a so-called long list, a long list of candidates.
The short list of the Kandinsky Prize is formed at the second level, and the selection is already carried out by the jury of each individual category. This short list includes all finalists of the Prize.
Already in the third stage, the winners are determined.
